“Good day everyone!” Professor Colin Collins Greeted as he walked into the classroom as he smiled at those already present in the classroom. “ We’ve got a really interesting topic to cover today and that my young friends is learning a new healing spell. “ He said with an excited tone in his voice as he listened to the excitement of some of the students in the class.
“ Now when it comes to healing, it’s important to note that we use a variety of healing potions along with a variety of spells to find the best outcome to assist someone that needs healing. This particular spell we’re about to learn can be useful if ever you find yourself or someone you know in a pickle where you’ve got a large deep wounds. “
He tapped his wand on the board as the incantation for the spell popped up on the board. “ Today we will be learning. Vulnera Sanentur. “ He said as he pulled over a dummy and placed it on the table before him as he used a near by knife to cut deep wounds into the wooden training dummy.
“This spell when used correctly, gives the user the ability to heal deep wounds in someone. “ He paused as he looked around to make sure everyone was paying attention. “ Now before I demonstrate this spell, can you throw at me other types of healing spells you know or we’ve covered in the past? “ He asked hoping Colin’s excitement and energy could bring more interaction in the classroom.

One of her worst classes, Basic Healing was certainly not Maeve's favourite. She only received an E for it during her O.W.L.s and that had disappointed Father greatly. Although she knew the importance of this field of magic, especially as someone who frequently experimented with risky spells, something in her very nature seemed to reject the course materials. Her healing charms were nowhere near as easily produced as her offensive or even defensive spells. She often found Transfiguration to be less challenging - changing the shape of something entirely was easier than mending a minor skin laceration.
At least she knew the theory well, even if she struggled with practice. "Episkey can heal minor injuries - such as a broken finger or a bloodied nose." She had written a whole essay on that particular spell for her exams, and could cast it fairly well.

Every Professor here almost felt like an emery at first. Calvin, who was always suspicious of over happy people questioned the realness of Professor Collin’s but of course, would never really speak up about it. Looking over to the other students, he took notice of one girl who also happened to be the school Head Girl.
Calvin began to write down the spell she had mentioned and what it could do. He assumed the Professor wanted more than one type of healing spell and thus, Calvin raised his hand before speaking. “ Umm, there’s also Anapneo which is used to clear the throat of a choking person. “ He suggested waiting to see if others would have an option to provide.

Basic Healing was one of Julian's favourite classes. He had taken an avid interest in healing magic the last year or so, particularly after his mothers passing. The inability of Healers to cure her had spurred an almost obsessive need to learn the art so that he may never be required to watch someone he loved die needlessly again. Julian also had come to respect the value of a masterful healer during difficult times... And by difficult times - he meant war. To follow his families desired path, Julian understood the road was paved in adversity and darkness, and who better to navigate that path than someone who was skilled in both dark magic and the ability to heal himself?
He listened to Professor Collins introduce the lesson and felt silent enthusiasm at the prospect of learning a new healing spell - for each and every new spell learned provided him with a larger arsenal from which to choose from and practice. Large, deep wounds. Julian unrolled his parchment, taking note as his mind flashed back to his brief duel with Hilfiger. He had gashed the boy's thigh fairly deep - and had not yet attained the magic to completely close the wound. This spell, it seemed, would have been useful. He would pay close attention.
Vulnera Sanentur. Julian scratched the incantation neatly, looking up to observe the Professor begin to slash a dummy, tearing it in several places before posing a question to the class. Julian waited for Thorne and Klein to provide several options, listing Episkey down on his notes as well as he had not yet learned the spell. He would ask Thorne for a demonstration sometime.
He didn't raise his hand, but instead spoke in the wake of Klein's answer, "Percuro, too, is convenient for speeding up the bodies natural healing process... depending on the strength of the caster." He had cast it himself on Levi, and watched the spell work its magic in threading his muscle fibres together over bone. Of course such a simple spell had not healed his wounds entirely, it had certainly helped in stemming the blood flow.

Had he learned nothing from the previous year? Henri was lost for words trying to come up with a healing spell when instructed too by Professor Collins. Everyone seemed to be able to come up with something and since Henri was unable to do so, decided to nod his head in agreement to the others when he heard the others providing spells. He also decided to write down some he may have forgotten about.

“There’s also the shock charm Professor.” Levi called out as he raised his hand and waited for his turn amongst the other students. “The one that can be used in defibrillation in a cardiac arrest sort of thing. “ He added waiting to see and excited to move onto the next steps. Looking around, he questioned if there were many other healing spells or if that was it. Surely the healers knew more?

Jarod listened closely and wrote down the healing spells that were talked about. He then sighed and tried to think of more. Jarod picked his hand up. "Ossio Dispersimus is another healing spell, replaces broken bones with new or such," he said as he looked around at everyone there as he hoped that he wasn't wrong about that. "Also Reparifors, it Reverts minor magically-induced ailments like paralysis and poisoning," Jarod added as he had a feeling that he was right. He believed that he was even if he wasn't sure about it. Jarod looked around snd back at the professor.

A smile popped up on his face as multiple types of healing spells were thrown at him as answers. Some they had covered in the past and some he had yet to deliver to the class. “Fantastic work everyone.” He replied as he waited for a pause between the students as he began pointing and counting the students that had contributed.
“ I believe house points are in order. “ He exclaimed with a smile on his face while nodding his head.”20 points to Slytherin and Ravenclaw and 10 points for Hufflepuff. “ He called out before smiling and looking at those that answered as well as those that didn’t answer.
“ Now this spell is a counter curse to a very dark type of spell. “ Professor Collins said as he walked over to one of the blackboards just behind him. “ This in fact is a counter curse to a slashing spell. One that should never be practised and God forbid if I ever catch you using it, you’ll be bringing your house into the negative house point balance. “
He began writing up the incantation on the boar. Sectumsempra.” Now while this spell is effective at healing deep lacerations in a body, it will not be able to fully heal completely dismembered limbs if one was to use Sectumsempra. In order for this spell to be fully effective it must be used three times. The first is to slow down the floor of blood to prevent death frombleeding, the second to clear residue and begin to heal the wounds and the third to fully knit the wounds however Dittany must still be used to prevent scaring. “
He paused for a second to allow the student to finish writing down crucial information before he continued on with the lesson regarding wand movement. “ In order for you to successfully use this spell, the incantation must be used as you guide your wand over the large lacerations three times. Keeping in mind, some of you may not be able to cast this spell immediately. Miss Thorne. Would you be so kind to lead us in the first example here with this training dummy. “
Colin tapped his wand on the training dummy as it began to activate after a short little rumble causing red liquid to ooze from the fake lacerations. “ Now don’t worry, this is only a water charm that has been charmed. “ He assured the class before smiling as he waited for Maeve to take the first example.

Considering this was only Rose’s first year in the Basic Healing course, she did not have anything to add to the discussion, but quickly wrote down every spell mentioned by her classmates. Considering how active she was, and her position on the Gryffindor Quidditch team, she had a feeling some of these spells could be particularly useful. That was part of the reason why she had taken the course. Well that, and it seemed like a useful course for general daily use, at least compared to some of the other courses like divination or ancient runes. When would she ever have to decrypt a message in runes in her daily life? Healing an injury from a bludger however, that was a more regular occurrence.
Her notes grew ever longer as Professor Collins continued, further explaining the spell they would be practicing during that class. It seemed like quite an advanced spell for a younger student like herself, so she was happy to watch Maeve demonstrate the spell before she would have to practice herself. Leaning forward slightly, quill at the ready, she waited for the older student’s attempt, hoping to take notes to help when it would be her turn.

The seventh-year duly quilled down the information Professor Collins provided, summarizing and rephrasing rather than writing everything verbatim. Her eyes lingered on the blackboard, where he had written down the incantation of a curse. She suspected Levi and Julian would be interested as well, but did not look at either of them. This was not the time to exchange meaningful glances - not right after the professor so eloquently forbade everyone from using the Dark spell.
Being invited into the spotlight tended to invigorate her; although Basic Healing was among her least favourite classes, Maeve still felt the familiar jolt of anticipation. Having spectators never hampered her performance - if anything, it only served to enhance it. She rose from her seat and walked to the front of the class, where the somewhat realistically bleeding dummy awaited first aid.
This healing spell could very well prove useful in the future - especially if she did become an Auror, like her father wanted her to. It might be required even sooner, if anything went wrong in the study group. With that thought in mind, she made extra effort to concentrate on performing the motions accurately.
Wand held close to the dummy, she began moving it over the lacerations as she incanted. "Vulnera Sanentur." The gush of the scarlet liquid slowed considerably, although it did not cease. Was this good enough, or would a perfect cast stop the bleeding immediately? Maeve couldn't pause to ponder this, or the rhythm of the spell would be broken. "Vulnera Sanentur." The cuts began shrinking, closing up as she slowly moved her wand over them. "Vulnera Sanentur." With the last round of healing, the flow of fake blood finally ceased. Only small cuts remained where the lacerations had been; however, they were still deep enough require either more healing or some stitches. The redhead looked up at Professor Collins, awaiting his verdict.

Shock charm, Julian scribed as Hilfiger spoke, noting down anything he thought was of value to practice later. Ossio Dispersimus, he added to the list as Raines then chimed in, adding: replaces broken bones, and then: Reparifors: reverts magical ailments such as paralysis and poisoning. Satisfied with his growing list of new spells, Julian put his quill down as the Professor allocated house points to all students that had participated.
Although quite happy with several new spells to try out, Julian's ears pricked suddenly as the Professor mentioned dark magic - the rest of the classroom becoming white noise. The slashing spell: Sectumsempra. The Professor's warnings concerning negative house points were useless as a caution as Julian did not care for the house points competition here at Hogwarts. Appearing only to take necessary notes, Julian added the curse to the bottom of his list, along with the appropriate usage of the counter-curse. Both could prove immensely useful and he was almost certain Thorne and Hilfiger were paying extra attention as well.
And then the Professor called Maeve up, and Julian almost sneered. He had witnessed Thorne's proficiency with magic during their meetings, and her adeptness in performing new spells and charms... This would likely be a walk in the park for her. As she rose from her seat and moved to the front of the classroom, movement caught his eye and he glanced to his left where Weasley had leaned forward ever so slightly in her seat, clearly anticipating the presentation. Julian caught himself distracted momentarily, not having interacted with the younger student (other than catching sight of a flash of red hair on the Quidditch pitch) since their first meeting at the Astronomy tower after curfew. It had been a strange night for him: muddled with exhaustion, but also somehow nice. Rose Weasley had not reacted to his presence like most others did: she had been kind. Why?
He shook the thought off as he heard Thorne mutter the first incantation, eyes darting back to the seventh year, watching her careful wand movements, her hand moving fluidly through the air. She spoke the second incantation in rhythm with the first, sounding almost like a song of melancholy as she followed through with the third. Julian's eyes had been trained on the prepared dummy, watching as the slashes had shrunk, stitching themselves up as they complied with her magic. Perfect.

Professor Collins seemed to have said a lot of words and information in a short period of time and despite writing down as much as he could, he knew he may of missed one or two important key points. Looking down at his work , one piece of information stood out to him as much as he was sure it stood out to the others.
The slashing spell…. Why talk about something that’s potentially dangerous but then tell us not to use it. He did his best to hide the fact that he of course wrote down the spell they were warned not to practise. Naturally, he also assumed that the others followed suit taking their own notes of the spell either it be mental or written.
He observed Maeve take the first stance observing how well she had performed the spell on the first go. A true example of leadership and leading the way for the others. No wonder she was not only the head girl but the unofficial leader of their study group. He knew too well not to look at either of them unless it was an absolute necessity so as to avoid any form of suspiciousness between them all.
For now, he remained silent waiting for the time when he could be called up to perform the spell. Earning house points were just a bonus now at this stage.
Ivy made a particular effort to concentrate in this class. In previous years, she’d never really had to use healing spells as nothing dangerous ever seemed to happen to her. However, her life had gotten a little more risky than she would like recently, so she jotted down as many notes as she could in case she ever needed to use the spell. She glanced at Levi, remembering their escapade in Knockturn Alley, and wondered if he remembered it too.
Sectumsempra. The word felt dirty and she tried to rid it from her mind, but the harder she tried the more she thought about it. Why would the professor tell them the incantation for something so dangerous? She watched Maeve perform the counter-curse flawlessly. Of course. Truth be told, she had always been a little jealous of Maeve’s proficiency in magic. She was older than Ivy which helped, but everything she did, she seemed to do effortlessly. “Professor.” He said as he waited for Maeve to finish her attempt at the spell. Calvin was rather impressed with how Maeve did with her spell work and even clapped once Maeve was finished. Maeve really stood out to her. She was formidable, powerful and kinda pretty too. Calvin however, was quite loyal to his girlfriend Desiree. “ You mentioned the dark spell before. “ He asked waiting for silence to fill the room before continuing on with what he wanted to ask which was quite bold. “ Can you show us how Sectumsempra works?”
