maeve thorne
Birthday: Aug 12, 2008
Blood Status: Pureblood
Location of Residence: Surrey, United Kingdom
School: Hogwarts
House: Slytherin
Appearance:

Three Characteristics You Think You Are: Intelligent, strong-willed, responsible.
Three Characteristics Others Think You Are: Competitive, stubborn, outgoing.
Three Random Facts:
• Before coming to Hogwarts, Maeve lived in Finland with her mother.
• She attended Durmstrang Institute and was quite fascinated with lessons involving Dark Arts. In fact she was one of the top students in that discipline, displaying an uncanny talent for mastering Dark spells and brewing dangerous potions.
• Her birth name is Maia Maeve Mustajärvi. It was her father who demanded that she use her middle name and adopt his own surname - Thorne - when coming to live with him.
Aspirations:
• Joining the Slytherin Quidditch team.
• Becoming a famous Quidditch player. Or a famous duelist. Or a famous potioneer.
• Inheriting her father's estate and, when the time comes, marrying a respectable pureblood wizard.
Opinion:
• Blood purity
The purity of magical blood must be preserved. Breeding with Muggles or Muggleborns taints the blood for generations to come. As a dutiful daughter and current heir to her father's wealth, Maeve knows she will have to marry someone that could strengthen or advance her family's position. Like as not, her father would arrange a marriage with some scion of a respectable pureblood house. She is accepting of such fate, and even welcomes it. Blood purity also plays a significant role when choosing whether someone is worth her time.
• Quidditch
Maeve has been obsessed with the sport since before she could fly a broom. She follows the professional leagues, collects team merchandise, practices on her free time, and hopes to one day become a world-famous Seeker.
• Muggles
The most wilfully destructive force in the world, Muggle civilization will some day end up tearing the planet apart - or so both of her parents claim. Muggles breed too fast, create and use too many harmful 'technologies', and their greed is endless. The magic world should never have opened its doors to Muggleborns. Moreover, procreating with Muggles should have been forbidden by law for all witches and wizards. If allowed, the Muggleborns will wreak havoc on the magical world just as they did on the non-magical one.
• The Sorting Scarf
It had been quite a disappointment to find out that the famous Sorting Hat, an object once worn by a Hogwarts founder, was replaced with a scarf. Loss of tradition and history is always regrettable. The Scarf does its job acceptably, however, since it put her in the house her father claimed she belongs in.
• The Knight Bus
A transportation suitable for Muggle peasants and them alone. No self-respecting pureblood would step inside such a disgraceful vehicle. It should not even exist, but Muggle culture will keep contaminating the magical world for as long as Muggleborns are allowed in.
Family:
Yrsa Mustajärvi-Krasnova | mother | born 1984
A dutiful but cold woman, Yrsa did not bother to hide her regrets about the short but 'fruitful' affair with a British wizard, which resulted in Maeve's birth. A beautiful woman coming from a well-respected family, she would have been a valuable bride; having a fatherless daughter robbed her of that value. She could not blame the child for that, of course, but she could not grant her unconditional motherly love, either. Therefore, Maeve's basic physical and educational needs were taken care of, but the emotional ones were neglected. When Yrsa finally married and gave birth to two more children, Maeve was all but forgotten. Seeing her mother display warmth and affection towards the two younger children, the girl gradually grew resentful. It was not a hard choice to make, when her estranged father decided to reconnect and invited Maeve to live with him. Yrsa seemed happy to be rid of her first-born, too.
Aleksandr Mikhailovich Krasnov-Mustajärvi | stepfather | born 1981
At the beginning of his relationship with Yrsa, Aleksandr had tried to be a father figure to Maeve. The girl was sullen and refused to accept him, rightfully fearing that starting a new family would make her mother even more distant. At some point, Aleksandr gave up, left Maeve to brood, and focused on his own children. The rare interactions between the girl and her stepfather are cool and formal.
Elea Aleksandrovna Krasnova-Mustajärvi | half-sister | born 2013
The 'princess' is clearly Yrsa's favourite child, which makes Maeve feel envious. Elea can get more praise for stealing her father's wand and setting an expensive tapestry on fire than Maeve could attain for finishing a semester with top grades. In Maeve's opinion, her little sister is just a dim, painfully average child.
Antti Aleksandrovich Krasnov-Mustajärvi | half-brother | born 2016
For most of the little monster's life, Maeve has been away studying in Durmstrang. She barely knows him, and, quite frankly, is not very interested in learning more about him.
Alistair Sebastian Thorne | father | born 1968
For almost fourtneen years, all Maeve knew of him was what her mother had begrudgingly told her: the two of them had a brief romance in Berlin, where both of them were visiting at a time. Alistair was married, and had no intention of putting his wife aside. When it became apparent that Yrsa was pregnant, he gave her a considerable sum of money in exchange for a vow to never contact him or his family. Beyond an occasional fantasy of her rich father coming to take her away from her indifferent mother, Maeve rarely thought about him at all.
Absent for the entirety of Maeve's formative years, Alistair Thorne appeared a few weeks before her fourteenth birthday. He brought expensive gifts for both Maeve and Yrsa, and spent several days talking to his daughter, getting to know her. Eventually, he invited her to come live at his manor in Surrey. When Maeve asked why he wanted her as a daughter all of a sudden, Alistair was honest: his only other child had gone missing some years ago, and his wife had recently died without providing another heir. He needed a child of his own blood to replace the son he'd lost.
Given that this was the very thing she used to dream about, and that her bonds with Yrsa were far from strong, Maeve accepted her father's offer. He may not be the best of parents, but at least he needed her for something.
Lucrecia Arianne Thorne, née Nott | stepmother | deceased
Or, more precisely, the portrait of the woman, for Maeve never met her in person. Hanging in Alistair's study, the portrait displays a handsome middle-aged witch whose attractiveness is somewhat ruined by the constant scowls she directs at Maeve. From what the teen has gathered, the deceased woman hates her for being born of Alistair's unfaithfulness, and for taking her son's place. Although she is rather innocuous in her two-dimensional existence, she does make Maeve's life more difficult by turning other portraits against her: whenever the teen walks the halls of the Thorne Manor, the inhabitants of most paintings hiss or glare at her.
Leonard Alistair Thorne | half-brother | presumed dead
Having never met Leonard, Maeve only knows what her father has told her. A model student, Quidditch prodigy, and the perfect scion for a respectable pureblood house. Too bad he went missing soon after graduating from Hogwarts. Or not so bad, given that his disappearance allowed Maeve to become a 'replacement heir' of sorts.
Roleplay Example:
The book was old in appearance, but not shabby; apparently, not that many people had handled it during its lifetime in the school library. Sophia wondered how much of that empty space that now adorned the Lycanthropy section was reserved for other - potentially more informative - books on the subject that people had borrowed. The werewolf infestation in Hogwarts was a secret plenty of students were becoming aware of, including Sophia. She had to learn to identify them, while they were still in human form - for her own protection. And what would Father even do if she got bitten and turned into a half-breed? It was bad enough she was a half-blood! He would probably kick her out immediately, blood ties or no, and she'd have nowhere to go, except maybe make home in the Forbidden Forest with the other lycanthropes. The thought made her clutch the autobiography even tighter in her hands.
That was when the older girl approached her and asked to just hand over the book Sophia had spent the better part of the hour searching for. The book her own safety likely depended on. It wouldn't do. Not even if the other was also a fellow Slytherin. The redhead shook her head.
"I'm sorry, but I found it first, and I also really need it," she said, a bit defensively. "I heard there are werewolves within Hogwarts territory, and I have to learn to spot them while they're still in human form." Hopefully, this addition would be enough to show the senior student that Sophia's own need was of utterly serious nature, perhaps more serious than... what could it be? A written assignment the older girl may need to do for her Defense Against the Dark Arts class? This was life and death, after all. "It won't take me long, I'm a fast reader. I should be able to return the book in two or three days, and then you can have it."
