Family:
Relationship with Parents: While Nova is close to both of her parents, she's definitely always been a dad's girl. The two of them spend a lot of time together bonding over Muggle movies and music, and she gets to see the world much differently with him than with her mom that was raised in a more traditional wizarding household. She and Tracey still spend plenty of time together though, and often take trips just to themselves to go shopping or have tea on a fancy veranda at some cafe in France or Portugal.
Relationship with Siblings: The Shepard household has spent quite a bit of time expanding over the years, leaving her with an older brother Max who is basically an adult and two younger siblings who didn't quite make the cut to go to school with her. While her father being a professor has made seeing the rest of her family easier for her than most, it has made it hard to be as close to them as she would like the past few years. She's always happy when they all get to go home for Christmas and summers and get to pick up laughing and fighting with each other like they'd never spent time apart.
OPINION
Blood purism - Nova really doesn't understand the big deal. As long as someone is capable of magic and works hard to hone their skills, there's no reason that someone would deserve magical skills more simply because they come from a longer line of it.
Muggles - The child of a former Muggles Studies professor, Nova was raised to believe that the Muggle world was more a cousin to her own than something completely separate. While her mother still doesn't see the appeal of it, her father made a point growing up to make sure Nova was exposed to all sorts of Muggle literature and art, and she's grown especially fond of Muggle music.
the Ministry - Nova doesn't completely trust the Ministry of Magic. While she might be only thirteen, it hasn't gone without notice to her that the Ministry hasn't been completely uncorrupted over the years. Maybe it's just her disdain for authority lately, but she doesn't know why she should think it couldn't just happen again.
Quidditch - Boring. Ball here. Ball there. Someone breaks a leg. It's the same thing every time.
Astronomy - Nova has taken a particular liking to astronomy the past few years at school. She's been particularly interested lately in charting the movement of constellations in relation to seasonal and time changes and how they would have looked different to people throughout history.
PENSIEVE
Three - Nova was only three when her parents came home from the hospital with her two twin siblings. She couldn't help but feel a little crowded in their quickly expanding home, but she's learned to roll with all the new additions as they kept coming various forms over the years.
Five - Nova's family moved to Hogwarts early! She was expecting to get to go when she was older, but, now, she was already getting to live there with her mom and dad. No one would really tell her why they got to do this, but she was very happy to get to see her dad every day instead of just when her mom got to take her to visit. The adults in the castle seem a bit worried about something though, and she often heard her parents talking in the next room about a threat when they didn't know she was listening.
Eight - One of Nova's favorite memories is getting to go to her first concert with her dad. It was in a Muggle coliseum and was filled with lights, confetti, and blasting music. She remembers thinking to herself that this must be what magic feels like to Muggles.
Nine - What was supposed to be a peaceful day in Hogsmeade turned into complete chaos. She can still remember her mom snatching her hand running for cover as the curses released in the town center began to engulf the people around them. Her family made it out okay in the end, but not everyone was so lucky that day.
Twelve - Nova had made it to her second year of school at Hogwarts and had found herself with an amazing group of friends. Little did she know it would only take those two short years before she got wrapped up in the hijinks that Hogwarts tends to play. She and five of her friends took an Beatrice Gateau and stopped her from stealing an important artifact from the castle. They may have been only twelve, but they had strength in numbers and managed to subdue her long enough to get help.
ROLEPLAY EXAMPLE
His mother picks out a star for him the night that he is born. It's as bright as the sprinkle of pale blonde hair he's born with, as bright as his red face as he came screeching into life, as bright as the future she has laid out for him. She traced it out in the form of a constellation, declared him a dragon. He'd go on screeching for the rest of his life.
Every day life is about tradition. He is taught to follow a schedule. Wake up at the same time every day, go to lessons, have lunch in a sitting room, lessons, dinner with the family at six sharp, don't talk, just eat. Time passes in a steady rhythm. It's comfortable and natural, and breaking away from it seems unthinkable. Family means more than anything, so he sticks close to them. He follows their beliefs and ways to a fault.
All life is about honor. He bows low to his mother and father. He bows low to his grandfather until the day he dies. He bows quick and short when he faces to duel, because he learns early on that not everyone deserves his honor and respect. No, Draco Malfoy will never stand on equal footing with these people. The name Malfoy makes him better in every way, and it takes a lot to earn the respect that would make him think otherwise. He offers his respect freely only once, and, when it's turned down, he never lets his guard down again.
