The winter still held Scotland in its frosty grasp, a thick layer of snow covering the Hogwarts grounds and enticing students into snowfights. Don had seen some fifth-years using a spell that bewitched snowballs, causing them to follow the target around. His goal for today was to master that spell for himself, since that seemed like a great tool for his arsenal of simple pranks.
As he arrived at the courtyard during one of his free periods, the space was vacant - most other students would still be in class at this time. Fantastic - he had the whole area for himself, allowing him to practice freely.
He produced a small pile of snowballs first, forming them into neat spheres expertly. Once he had about a dozen or so of them, he unpocketed his dogwood wand and tried to imitate the complicated swirly wand movement he saw the fifth-years perform. One snowball shifted and rolled off the pile. Don couldn't be sure if this was the achievement of his spellwork, or simply the result of a poorly balanced stack of spheres. He placed the willful snowball back into the pile of its siblings and tried again.

The whole place was completely snowy, and to tell the truth, Heirans was delighted. It was one of his favorite types of weather, allowing him to wear outfits that he couldn’t when it was too hot. Even the snow created a beautiful landscape, as if it remembered a little Narnia, a film he had been watching. And he had brought the books with him for Hogwarts. Removing all thoughts while admiring the landscape, he made the decision to go out the gate in his warm outfit. In addition to the oufit, he wore a jacket that allowed him to keep himself warm. He was surprised to see that there were not many students around, but to tell the truth, possibly most chose to take refuge inside, where the heat was. Heirans probably would have chosen the same, but he thought it best to go out and enjoy it. How many times could you find the place all snowy? And the possibility of enjoying the snow, throwing balls, all kinds of activities, etc... That’s why he wanted to choose the option he liked least.
He sighed and noticed something in his field of vision, balls that seemed to be flying. Then he remembered there was a spell that allowed snowballs to be cast. The prefect walked to the place where he had seen the balls, and found Don there. He was not surprised to see him there, let alone be the person responsible for the charmed balls “At least you’ve had enough sense to do it when there are no people around.” He said, Heirans cleared his throat, “My apologies. Hello, what do you think it’s all snowy?” asked with a smile, since he had skipped the manners of greeting. He sat on a rock, but realized it was wet “Ah! Het is nat! Ik heb geluk dat hij spreuken kent die ik kan oplossen.” he muttered a little annoyed, waving the wand at the rock where he released some hot steam to dry the area and sat on it. Finally having found his place, he was thinking “Why have you decided to come here instead of finding a place in the warmth of the common room?” asked Heirans, a little intrigued.

It took plenty of effort and a good dozen attempts, but he finally managed to get the spell to work. The snowballs were now zooming around the courtyard happily, though not entirely in Don's control. He figured that the enchantment required some sort of a target for the snowballs to attack. Since none had been selected, they looked a little lost and aimless in their flight.
The familiar voice of the Ravenclaw Prefect made him sigh. Was he in trouble? There might be some school rule against using magic in the courtyard, or against enchanting snow, or against having fun in general - he was losing track of all the restrictions. Luckily, Heirans didn't seem to object to the current activity.
"At least you’ve had enough sense to do it when there are no people around."
That sounded just a tiny bit condescending, but Don decided to allow such commentary. He was pretty sure it wasn't intended as a reprimand or veiled criticism, like certain Slytherin Prefects' words often were. "All this snow gives a perfect opportunity to practice some wintery spells," he responded, glad that this might not end up being one of the 'Detention, McEvoy' types of encounters.
He watched, with some amusement, as Heirans selected a seat for himself and made the moisture evaporate with an unfamiliar charm. "I prefer being almost anywhere else than my common room," he answered with a light shrug. "Why are you here-- Ouch!" The exclamation was caused by a snowball hitting him in the back of the head. He turned to look in the direction it had come from, but there was nobody there. It must have been one of his own enchanted snowballs, turning against its master. What treason! He felt proud - the snowballs seemed to have gained some of his mischievous personality.
