"Not at all, I am saying I am focused on one in particular currently," Octavian corrected, as he offered a mild shrug. "I feel it is more important, at present, given how I am nearing the end of my Hogwarts enrollment. I can cast spells, but I may not have all the material the school possesses at the conclusion of my seventh year."
That was, ironically, the truth of it.
Boom!
"And it does not bother me, not in the slightest. I am simply looking for more from you," Octavian rubbed at his chin. "Perhaps I expected more, given your stature in dueling and academics? Or maybe there is less to be discovered than originally thought?"
He sighed.
"Alas... at least you can cast Confringo. Well done."
Octavian turned to the room entrance, adding:
"Now, if you will excuse me, I have class shortly. Until then, good day."

What was his aim in delivering this thinly-veiled criticism and making it sound as though he was disappointed in her? Did he expect her to fall for this trick, start seeking his approval? Maeve possessed enough introspection to understand a desire to be admired by peers existed within her personality, but that did not mean she wanted everyone to think she was exceptional. Not the likes of Octavian Corvus, at least. She would not seek validation of her magical prowess from someone she could outperform in the execution of nearly all offensive spells.
After the door was shut, she completed the destruction of the second dummy, all the while waiting for the sixth year to return with the excuse of having forgotten something. Once she was certain he would not come back, she moved on to a new target. "Vulnus Pertinax." A gash appeared across its throat.
