SCOTTISH REFERENDUM

There has been much bloodshed and many injuries on both sides of this civil war between parts of Scotland and the rest of the U.K. New Minister for Magic, Percy Weasley, has pledged to try and end this peacefully.

After various meetings with self-appointed city councillors in Edinburgh and area, all parties agreed to have a referendum and leave it to the people. The Muggles will also have a referendum. But what does this mean?

Never in the history of the U.K. and most known places in the world has there been different borders for a country for muggles and wizards. It would be too complex and cause many issues, especially for muggleborns and their families. Since the rebels in the north refuse to become a city state under the U.K. and the Ministry refuses to let them separate as their own country, it is up to the people.

Despite the Ministry's opposition to letting them separate, the referendum is about exactly that: Whether or not Scotland should become independent from the U.K.

The Muggles have had a referendum about this in the past. In 2014, they voted to become independent with 55% of the people voting to stay in the U.K. The measure failed. However, times have changed. Perhaps the muggles will see a different outcome this time.

While the Ministry has agreed to also have a referendum, the results won't be so cut and dry in the wizarding world. If the Muggles vote yes for independence, the wizarding world will follow. However, if they vote no and the wizarding world votes yes, then they will not be independent, but this will open up discussions on giving certain liberties to Scotland. The Ministry declined to provide exact details of what that means at this time.

When the referendum happens on May 1st, however, make sure to go out and vote! This will be a very important moment in the history of our nation and could even end the war.
