We have a system for doing this which depends on a few factors but you can still get a pretty good job if you don't attend classes. If you don't end up with enough points for the job you want for your character, you can have them do a regular job that's attainable for a little bit while they upgrade at Rutherford. And they wouldn't have to sign up for every class there, just the ones they want to upgrade.

All OWLs & NEWTs are due by April 8th at the very latest. Nothing will be accepted if it's September in character time. No exceptions.
Please note that this is a sign up for OWLs & NEWTs only. It is not a sign up for jobs.That will be in a separate thread later. Only one graduate this year, so that'll be done through PM this time.
OWLs & NEWTs System
This system is both roleplay-based and points-based. You have two choices, either:
-- Roleplay up to 5 NEWTs and use points for the rest
-- Roleplay up to 5 NEWTs and use your class grades for the rest
You cannot use both points and your class grades. You must choose. You also don't have to roleplay 5. You can do 1 or 2, or even 0 if your points or class grades cover everything.
Keep in mind that no one can get all O's regardless of how you do it. Not even Hermione got all O's.
Class Grades
Class grades are based on how many times you reply to the class. If you want to know what your class grades are for this term, PM me.
Please note that if you choose this route and got all O's on the class grades it doesn't mean you can get all O's in your NEWTs. Also, if you want to choose a lower grade for an OWL or NEWT than what you had in the class grades, that's fine as well.
When claiming this, if you don't want to wait for the results, you can say 'highest possible' or even '1 level lower than class grade' works too.
Please note that if you're not sure if class grades or points-based is better for you, we will not choose for you. Do not ask us to figure out which one is better for you.
Points - Earning
O on exam: +5 pts
E on exam: +3 pts
Participated in 1-2 classes: +2 pts
Participated in 3-4 classes: +5 pts
Participated in 5-6 classes: +7 pts
Participated in 7+ classes: +10 pts
Top Student: O in that subject (no points used); or +3 pts if they got it another year
Foreign Students: +5 pts (because no classes)
Rutherford Student: 10 pts *
Rutherford Student Studied/Attended a Class: +5 pts **
Keep in mind that you can only claim NEWTs for classes that your character signed up for. If you don't want them to pass one of them, that's a good opportunity to gain some points to put towards other classes. (:
* Remember that this is a thread to claim NEWTs. Students who are doing Diploma programs at Rutherford are not doing NEWTs. Only students who signed up to do NEWTs at Rutherford are doing NEWTs.
** This must be done between September - May of the current term. Either attend a class posted by a Rutherford professor or participate in a study thread for your classes at Rutherford.

OWLs
OWLs are optional. You don't need them to get into certain NEWT-level classes. You don't need them for certain jobs. But you will get a button for completing them.
OWL & NEWT Buttons
You will get a button if you write out at least one OWL or NEWT. So if you just use points or class grades you won't because you're already getting a class grades button.
Roleplaying the OWLs & NEWTs
Some are roleplayed. Some are written out.
There is a rubric. No, we're not going to tell you the specifications. But know that you should put some effort into it and if you just make all your characters do everything perfectly, that will definitely not give you a great mark unless there's some substance with it. Please note that the grades are final and will be done by all the staff.
Once they're posted up, there will be a list of potential tasks you can do for each subject. For each one, you only do one, even though there will be different options. If you do more than one, then only the first one will be counted.
Anything roleplayed out will be posted in a sub-board of the Great Hall. Anything academic will be PMed to me.
