professors & school staff
NOTE: Before considering taking a professor position at
Hogwarts, make sure to read the professor section in the Rules.
All professors are on a 3 year contract. Initially, they have to teach there for 3 years without switching subjects. But after that, it's only a 1 yr contract each year. It isn't very realistic for all the professors to be different every year and the history list is getting long for some classes so this is why we're doing this. If you go inactive, no one else will be able to take the position until the 3 years are up.
Associate Professors are like "Junior Professors". While fully qualified and do teach many classes, the main professor is still the master of their subject (ex. Potions Master). Associate Professors must be under the age of 30 AND have less than 3 years of experience teaching. They only have a 3 year contract at Hogwarts and if they're over 30 at that time and a full position isn't open, then they will be let go. If not, they can continue on a yearly basis until they're 30. Associate Professors will get priority of open full professor positions over anyone new, as long as they qualify.
Head of Houses must have been teaching at the school for at least a year prior to obtaining the position and must have graduated from the House they are Heading. If they did not graduate from that school, they can become a Head of House if they have been teaching at that school for at least three years.
Deputy Headmasters must have been teaching at the school for at least three years prior to obtaining the position and must also have been a Head of House for at least two years (if there are Houses at the school). If no one had the position last year, you may say that your character taught there then (but if we had someone on the site, then they couldn't have been teaching then). If there are no Houses at the school, they must have been teaching at the school for five years in order to become Deputy Headmaster.
Headmasters must have been teaching at the school for ten years and must have been a Deputy Headmaster for at least three years.
Therefore, Head of Houses must at least be one year older than the age minimum, Deputy Headmasters must be at least three (or five if no Houses) years older than the age minimum and Headmasters must be at least ten years older than the age minimum (per school).
If they are teaching at a school they didn't graduate from, Head of Houses must be three years older than the age minimum, Deputy Headmasters must be at least five years and Headmasters must have been teaching at the school for ten years.
