Nisha Bakshi could count on 3 fingers, literally, 3 times she had ever gotten in trouble and punished but this time: she wore it as a little badge of honor. She was going to take the time to reflect on her failed invention: sneak shoes, which is what had landed her in detention well that and she took the fall so a Slytherin boy her age could get away. Nish had failed to see the outside interference of a very loud wailing portrait, blasted thing.
It wasn't a glorious punishment however, cleaning the owlery still she was going to write her Mother about it. The pair were so very close so Nisha shared everything with her and her Mother encouraged Nisha to leave comfort zones, she herself had done that during her school years and told Nisha Hogwarts was some of her most life experiencing events she'd endured. She arrived at the detention location waiting for the other student who would be joining her, Jack Halloway of the same house as her and year, it interested her about what he did to get detention? Would he write his Mother or Father? Nisha definitely wouldn't be writing her Father, she loved him and he loved her of course but he was strict and didn't tolerate misbehavior nor did he truly understand Nisha or how she processed life. He was far more likely to boast about her little brother anyways....

To say that Jack was humiliated, was an under statement. Sure, in reality it wasn’t a big deal to some, just a simple day in detention. Happens to most people every now and again, no big deal. But the boy was under enough pressure as it is. And it was so stupid too. He had been studying in the library the night before and fell asleep, waking up some time after curfew. Jack probably could have snuck his way back to Ravenclaw tower, if it hadn’t been for Peeves ratting him out to the library.
Blasted poltergeist.
Head down, ears still hot with shame, Jack silently made his way to the owlery for his punishment. At least he wouldn’t be doing it alone. She was already waiting for him when he arrived, a girl in the same house and year as him.

Nisha heard Jack approaching to which she turned and as she had been raised greeted him with a small lady like curtsey, "Jack Halloway? Fellow detainee I presume?" she held up two buckets already full of soap and water, "Nisha Bakshi, but Nisha is fine, the caretaker left us these and said straw brooms were waiting for us," she spoke matter of factly, "What did you get detention for? It's my first, I'm usually very good but I found sneaking around to study at night to be more productive times...the Prefect who caught me not so much," it was a tease yet she didn't smile at it, not in her face at least but in her eyes.

“I fell asleep in the library studying and missed curfew, that’s all,” Jack answered, “Peeves was the one who caught me. It’s… It’s my first time too…”
Quietly, he took one of the buckets from Nisha, keeping his gaze somewhat low. At least he should take some sort of comfort that he didn’t get detention for something really bad, like sneaking into the Forbidden Forest, or stealing, or-
Cut of those thoughts as soon as the came to him. No point spiraling when there was work to do.

"That's dreadfully nasty of that poltergeist, the school has had ample time to rid itself of Peeves," she shrugged, "yet I believe the adults rather enjoy the nature of Peeves, but what an experience detention will be," she sounded positive at least though she didn't physically show it, "I'm certain we'll find ourselves in detention again, you might even redeem yourself with a good detention," as far as she saw it Nisha was the only delinquent here.
"Shall we? I will tend the floors if you will do the walls, if you do perhaps come across some owl pellets in fairly good form," she shrugged tucking a hair behind her ear, "let me know, I'm collecting bones for a project..."

Jack nodded and set to work. He sat the bucket beside him and started scrubbing the walls and in between the roosts. Some of the owls weren’t two particularly please that the student was invading their space and tried nipping at his nose and ears in relatable. Luckily Jack was quick and avoided them, expect for one especially annoyed tawny owl who managed to nip his finger. Oh well, at least he wasn’t bleeding. His owl gray owl came to investigate and let him scrub in peace.
As he cleaned he managed to find a few fairly decent owl pellets and set them aside for Nisha. He had no idea why she needed them, but if it’ll encourage him to make friends, he’ll take what he can get. It’s probably so wizarding thing he’s still not familiar with.
“Um… What sort of project are you doing? With the bones?”

She didn't mind Jack, he was quiet and task oriented which was nice. Nisha was an organized cleaner well she was basically organized in every way possible again something to deal with the way her brain was wired, tasks and patterns and routine. Sweeping first she almost zoned out in her duty when Jack asked his question, "I am making an interactive bone display, it will move like a picture showing the creatures last moments before it was snatched by an owl...it's just a personal project," she shrugged, "I'm making sneaking sneakers too, they will eventually silence your foot steps, I was testing a pair when I got caught and put in detention."

He wasn’t going to admit it to her face, but he found the bone project to be a touch morbid, but he had seen a handful of other Ravenclaws create similar projects. Perhaps it was something she wanted to study as well?
His interest was peaked when Nisha talked about making sneaking sneakers.
”Wait- ‘sneaking sneakers’? How?” Jack asked, setting down the brush he was using and turning his full attention to the girl, “Do you put a spell on a normal pair sneakers or do you make them all with magic?”

When he gave her his full attention Nisha was a little taken back she stopped working and leaned against her broom, no one ever really cared to hear her ramblings or were interested in her tinkering.
"It's been all mostly dumb luck," she shrugged, "I hadn't thought about trying to make them from magic...if it can be done, I've been trying spells given to me by my cousin though," she picked at the broom, "How is your year going so far?"

The boy suddenly turned his head away, seemingly intensely focused on scrubbing a particular corner of the roost he was working on. “It’s… uh… It’s been an adjustment so far,” he managed to say sheepishly.
Jack didn’t like to draw attention to himself. Even in class he was very quiet, but still had a bright mind, as is natural in Ravenclaws. The first few weeks at Hogwarts were especially tough. He had only just learned of magic that summer, and unfortunately, some of the students knew that.
He had gone silent again, moving onto the next roost. His gray owl hoping onto his shoulder, perching there as he scrubbed.
