There has been a looming threat for many months now, if anyone's been reading the Daily Prophet articles posted about it.
Something is targeting magical beings and killing them where they stand in an instant. There have bene no witnesses because it takes everyone in the area where it hits. It is completely random. No sense of rhyme or reason.
Yes, there are more details, but I'm not going to tell everyone what's the cause. Because you can try to solve it yourself (but it won't be easy). More details will be released as they're discovered. So look out for Daily Prophets regarding this.
Going forward, if you post a new thread in any unsafe zone, you are risking your character's life. You are agreeing, by posting there, for your character to be killed. Perhaps they won't, but they likely will be.
Keep in mind this will start as of August. So you can make threads now, but if you set them in August, your character could die. Yes, the threat has been going on a while now, but that's the date we're setting when it's getting way too dangerous to be out there.
Current threads in unsafe zones will be moved to another board. You may NOT make a new thread in that board.
For anyone wanting to search for the cause, a separate board will be made for that so you won't be risking your character's life. But only search threads will be allowed there.
FAQ
What about characters ouside of England?
This is happening INTERNATIONALLY. Everyone in the world is affected (somehow...?). Other countries may be dealing with it differently, but they would likely have strongholds too (definitely every wizarding school).
What about my shop?
Some are going to be mobile (mail orders), some will be relocated, some will have to close for now while this plot is happening. Check the list below.
Why is Hogwarts safe if it targets magic?
The safe zones are fitted with super extra strong protection charms. There's even a forcefield so you can't get through it (forbidden forest in its entirety is included within the safe zone). However, Hogwarts won't be entirely unaffected.
How does travel work? Can I switch between residences all the time?
So in order to leave a safe zone, they have to take down part of the barrier, which is of course very dangerous. They have to do it quickly and will only do it once per day. So if you are leaving the safe zone for another or something outside of it (which would not be a common thing, by the way), it would be at a designated time with anyone else leaving. At this time, they'd let the owls out to do deliveries too.
Also, you CANNOT switch residences all the time. Too much entering and exiting is very dangerous. I know you may have plots with people in other places, but that's what letters are for. Distance makes the heart grow fonder and all that stuff. This plot isn't lasting forever anyway.
When do Hogwarts students arrive?
They will arrive on August 1st. Yes, they may be separated from their families during this time. The Ministry isn't sure what to do if it's still happening next summer. But for now, all Hogwarts students will have to stay there fo the holidays.
How do we sign up for a location?
