So the amount of students to adults has been declining steadily for about a year or so. I've noticed, but it hasn't gotten bad enough to do something about it. Until now. Students graduate and become adults, so naturally, there will always be more adults. And then people make adults too. But right now it's at 36% students and 64% adults, which isn't good. Minimum 40/60 ratio is what we should have.
Why does this even matter? Well despite the main plot usually revolving around adults (but sometimes students as well), we are a very student-based Harry Potter roleplay. We have active classes, clubs, Quidditch and student tournaments and events all the time. And if we barely have any students, then those activities wouldn't be as fun, participation will dwindle, and it just spirals downwards from there.
So we're having a minimum amount of students rule again. I don't think it's the same as last time when we had this a few years ago.
The rule is that you must have at least 30% students if you have 5+ characters.
Please note that this does NOT mean that you have to make any adjustments to your current characters. It just means that if you have less students than the requirement, you can't make any new adults. Only new students. If you really want to make a new adult and can't, then you can buy that ability in Gringotts (OOC Purchases thread).
NOTE: Rutherford 'students' count as adults, as they are and some of them have apartments, jobs, etc. too. Only underage + Hogwarts/Beauxbatons/Firenze, etc. aged characters count as students.
Keep in mind that this rule isn't forever. If we get to 45/55 ratio, it will definitely be gone.
As a quick guide:
Has 5 characters, needs at least 2 students to make an adult Has 6-9 characters, needs at least 3 students to make an adult Has 10-14 characters, needs at least 4 students to make an adult Has 15 characters, needs at least 5 students to make an adult Has 16-19 characters, needs at least 6 students to make an adult Has 20-22 characters, needs at least 7 students to make an adult Has 23-25 characters, needs at least 8 students to make an adult
So right now, I have 18 characters. 5 of them are students. So if I wanted to make another character, it would have to be a student. Then I would have 19 characters, 6 of them being students. So then I would be fine to make an adult (not like I would, since you all know I barely ever make adults to start and most of mine (10/13) started as students first and then grew up lol).
NOTE: This currently affects 7 active writers (and 2 who haven't posted in the AC yet). If the above guide doesn't help and you want to know if it's you, just message any staff.
