The Order of Merlin is one of the most prestigious awards a witch or wizard can receive. It is awarded by a committee within the Ministry of Magic and can be revoked if the actions of the individual are scandalous enough later.

In order to claim one of these, your character must have:
-- Been on the site for at least 1 real year
-- Be at least 30 years old (exception for act of bravery, though must be roleplayed on site)
-- In most cases, must have roleplayed out the acts to receive the award

Any first class awards must have been roleplayed on site.


FIRST CLASS
For outstanding acts of bravery or distinction in magic
-- Saving the country from a dark lord or lady
-- Saving the world
-- Exceptional achievements in magic for over 50 years (must be 70+ years old and have made various discoveries in their field during their years)

-- ALBUS DUMBLEDORE (awarded 1945; almost revoked)
-- PETER PETTIGREW (awarded 1981; revoked 1998)
-- MINERVA MCGONAGALL (awarded 1998)
-- REMUS LUPIN (awarded 1998)
-- HARRY POTTER (awarded 1999 (almost revoked in 2005) - for defeating voldemort)
-- HERMIONE GRANGER-WEASLEY (awarded 1999 - for defeating voldemorts' horcruxes)
-- @ron (awarded 1999 - for defeating voldemorts' horcruxes)
-- ELIZA MARIE CUNNINGHAM (awarded 2013 - for creating the cure for the wizarding plague)
-- DRACO MALFOY (awarded 2013 - for creating the cure for the wizarding plague)


SECOND CLASS
For exceptional achievement in magic
-- Great achievements in magic for over 30 years (must be 50+ years old and have made multiple discoveries in their field during the years)

-- NEWT SCAMANDER (awarded 1979)


THIRD CLASS
For making a contribution to magical knowledge or entertainment
-- Great achievements in magic by making a grand discovery in their field (must be 30+ years old)
-- A famous entertainer with a long career behind them for at least 30 years (must be 50+ years old)

-- GILDEROY LOCKHART (awarded 1989; revoked 1998)
