charity ball
Hestia looked around the enchanted tent with a smile. Gone were the carnival games and attractions, and in their place were round tables and a wooden dance floor. Some of the directors had wanted a more formal look for the event, but Hestia was a simple woman. She thought that the brown and white room looked peaceful. Some of the kids had wanted to help decorate, and though she suspected it was because they didn’t want to go back to the orphanage, she had let them. They were her little helpers in the days leading up to the fundraiser and she was so proud of them.
The walls of the tent were decorated with their letters, photos and art work. It was not unlike the walls in her own house. The sight of them cheered her up and gave her the energy she would need to make it through the night. The kids were likely tired, but refusing to sleep. She wished that she was there to read them a story and say goodnight. It had become her habit, since she had no kids of her own. Her life revolved around helping children and animals, but she couldn’t imagine it any different.
When most of the tables were filled Hestia took a deep breath and walked to the podium next to the band. She had been dreading the speech part for weeks, and it had finally arrived. Though she was great with children, she found it difficult to relate to magical adults. Too many adults in the wizarding world had disappointed her. She was no longer a child, but a frustrated adult that couldn’t understand why so many adults failed to do the right thing.
She shook those negative thoughts from her head and chastised herself for being harsh. All of the adults in that room were trying to help. She knew that some of them were likely there because of their reputation, but at least they were there. The orphanage needed their money whether she liked it or not. Thinking only of the children she gestured to the band. They stopped playing giving her the quiet she needed to get the festivities started.
“Hello everyone, and thank you for coming tonight. Your donations mean the world to the children. I would like to take this time to say thank you to all our amazing sponsors, your donations have helped make today’s event a smashing success! Please remember that the silent auction is still open, and will not close until the end of the ball. You still have time to put in a bid for some of our amazing auction items.” Getting donations had been exhausting, but there were a lot of popular items in the auction, and she was sure that the winners would be pleased with their prizes. “I hope that you have a wonderful time tonight.” Hestia looked at the band and they once again began to play. She couldn’t get away from the podium fast enough.

After a day of fun activities, bidding, and buying from the list of shops participating in the fundraising, Auberon had happily joined those inside the tent. After the activities were over and it was time for the main event Auberon had actually taken the time to go get properly dressed. Even let his hair down and used some sort of product to smooth the frizz out. A charity ball needed some actual style after right? He'd certainly not been as well dressed as he was now, with the exception of his applying to be a Healer that was. While he wasn't in dress robes he was smartly dressed in gray pants and jacket, with a green and white striped dress shirt beneath a green over vest. He'd even been fancy and tucked a red handkerchief into his pocket!
Inside of the tent was wonderful. The brown and white really was an impeccable choice, or at least he thought so. Simple and calming. And the walls held a bunch of letters, art and photos which made him smile as he looked over some of them. Eventually he had to take a seat as he was one of the only ones still standing after a point. Giving an awkward smile he had gone to his seat, tripping over a chair leg in the process and having to apologize quietly as he sidled to his seat. Once settled he was at least out of danger of disturbing anyone else for the time being. So he tucked his chair in more and looked around the table to see who he was seated with.
For a short amount of time he was able to smile and give a little wave to those he was seated with until his attention was drawn to the podium as the music halted. Ah so there was still time to get to the silent auctions and get bids in, something he'd have to remember to do. While some of them he wasn't sure what he'd do with them he figured bidding would at least up the price on them. Hopefully he'd be outbid for the majority, like the date night one. He had no one to ask on something like that, but perhaps one of his siblings could use it. Or his coworkers. He could figure that all out only if he ended up getting that prize.
When Hestia was done her speech he clapped enthusiastically for her, glad to be here in support of the orphanage. He even gave a little whistle, disregarding whether or not that was an appropriate response to the speech or not. It was an exciting night so he was allowed his little quirks. Turning his smile to those at the table he started to chat at whomever would talk back. "This festival has been wonderful, don't you think?" It was almost like a vacation of sorts, coming out here and participating in the activities. There had been nothing like this since he'd been in school, at least not for him anyway.

Eliza was sitting at the table enjoying her meal when Hestia went up to do a little speech. She put down her fork and listened attentively to her old friend. She was so proud of Hestia and everything that she did for this orphanage. She relaly did care about her job and it showed. This dinner was so fancy and some might think that that was its purpose, but Eliza knew better. Hestia was just doing whatever she could go attract the people who would give money for the charity. She was a smart one and by all the people there, it looked like it would be successful. Eliza even bid for one of the silent auction items and was planning on going back soon to see if anyone outbid her yet.
She clapped when Hestia finished and looked over to one of the people by her table. "It really has been! Hestia has really outdone herself. Though I shouldn't be surprised." Eliza picked up her fork again and took a bite of her food.
"It's Auber... Hm... Auberon? Right?" Eliza tried to remember. "It's been a couple of years, I think. How have you been? Still at St. Mungo's?" Eliza remembered him from the Order, though there was of course no need for it anymore. They still ha the headquarters in Scotland but there was no use for an organization that had no one to fight. They were the protectors anyway but now there was peace in the country. At least, Eliza thought there were. There would always be minor problems, of course, but at least they ind't have some blood purist trying to murder everyone at a festival or something.
Realizing that she was actually at a festival presently, Eliza took a moment to casually knock on the wooden table before taking a sip of her drink. She didn't want to jinx it and have Giovanna ruin another perfectly fine day for people. It was for the children, but Eliza wouldn't put it past Giovanna to do something so cruel and horrendous. There was nothing that horridwoman wouldn't do, according to Eliza, except perhaps be a decent human being.
"I agree, this charity festival event really has been an amazing turn out of people." The fact that it all was for charity, for the orphanage, is really what made it spectacular. With his distraction from the meal was over he actually focused on what there was to eat. Through all of his shopping and messing about with the activities, plus a visit with both his siblings, he realized he was starving. His fork was promptly picked up and he managed to get a good helping of the nearest vegetable up into his mouth before he heard his table friend say his name.
Confused for a moment he looked closer at her and then smiled, swallowing his mouthful before he attempted to talk again. "Eliza! Yes, Auberon, its been some time! I've been doing really well, and how about you? Still at St. Mungo's, Creature Induced Injuries. The work never ceases to be fulfilling." How wonderful that he'd bumped into someone he knew from his days in the Order, and totally without actually bumping into her. Strange how he had once known so many people from there and yet hadn't kept up with hardly anyone. He supposed that's what time did to all things once there was no need of such organizations.
"Still teaching at Hogwarts?" Auberon thought he had the remembered correctly at least, maybe he was wrong but he was semi-sure he knew she worked there. Seeing her wrap the wooden table he eyed her strangely but decided that it must just be something she was thinking about. Not wanting to pry into that he reached for his drink and, well, sloshed it pretty good by missing the actual stem by a little and knocking the top. "Whoops." For the most part he'd kept the liquid inside by catching the glass as it rocked, but he still took out his wand to stop the spread. "Tergeo." Aha, the liquid siphoned up and it looked like nothing had ever happened!
A festival for children. It was beyond Seraphina why anyone would want to support those monstrous creatures, but she supposed it benefited their image. It was thanks to an orphanage that the blonde brat was around long enough to shatter the eardrums of anyone she neared. The only reason she had bothered to attend the charity ball in the first place was because it made for the perfect excuse to not be at Durmstrang. And, she wasn't paying for her ticket.
Her eyes shifted to the older man and woman sitting next to her. There were times her parents would send her tickets and invitations without an explanation, and she would attend the events without a question. It was an unspoken agreement they had: they were allowed to bother her occasionally, and then they had to leave her alone for the rest of the year.
For this occasion, she wore a black dress. Tapping her fingernails on the table, she barely listened to the woman who was speaking. She was thanking the sponsors, and it took all Seraphina's willpower to not roll her eyes. Her words were likely as genuine as some of the attendees' reasons for being at the ball.
Bringing the glass to her lips, she was thankful the event had wine. She was going to need it.
After spending time with her siblings, strolling through the festival, and bidding on auction items, a charity ball seemed like a wonderful way to end the night. Marjorie couldn't help but admire the simplicity of the tent—brown and white complemented each other quite well—and the many decorations plastered throughout, presumably crafted by the children at the orphanage. Since spending time at Hearts Sanctuary, she had grown an artwork collection of her own, given to her from the bright young children there.
Donning a rather simple dress, she quietly took a seat as the woman began speaking. She listened closely, her eyes moving over to a table with those she recognized. Her parents. With a charity event of this magnitude, she had no doubt they would be attending, but she knew it was not out of the goodness of their hearts. Pinching her lips into a line, she brought her eyes back to the speaker. As much as it bothered her, it was none of her business.
She clapped when the woman finished her speech, and as the music started, she let her eyes wander to the other tables. It had been a long time since she had attended an event alone, but perhaps she would come across a familiar face.
Lucien had always enjoyed a ball especially one for a good cause. The kids at these places needed homes and money for things others were more fortunate to have. He imagined what it must have been like for Seb before he was adopted and it made his heart sink. He wouldnt let that happen to his next child no matter how much it broke him.
He noticed her from across the room shortly after his arrival. She had come with family, the very ones that would not approve of someone like him. He had worn a fetching Three piece dress robe. He had spent several galleons on getting it tailored. He ever got his hair cut for the occasion. If he happened to bump into Seraphina she would eat her heart out. He looked good and fit with the look of the Purebloods that stood around. He had planned to keep his distance until he noticed Seraphina bringing a drink to her lips, did he have to babysit her!?!? He walked in that direction lightly flicking his wand to change her wine into grape juice. She could get pissed at him all she wanted but a deal was a deal as soon as he knew the group was looking to him he met her gaze holding up his hand and pointing to his ring finger mouthing the words we have a deal.
He spun on his heel running straight into the last person he had wanted to see, Genevieve. His smile twisted to a frown as the witch grasped his lapels and kissed his cheek. Her high pitched voice squealed his name and he grimaced. No this wasn't happening not ever. He removed her hands from his suit and nodded a hello before trying to escape but of course she wasnt done. He sighed not really wanting to fight. "Hello Gen... what do you want?" He grimaced as she moved closer to whisper in his ear a word that sent a wave of nausea his way. You... he shivered in disdain, "we are done Gen... you messed up big time..."
If it were up to him he would have not shown. But then he would have to face many questions from his coworkers. He didnt need any of them to have a reason to suspect his activities. So to keep up appearances he came dressed in his Finest black dress robes he had came along with the rest of the Youngblood family. His younger siblings were to be on their best behavior and knew what it meant not to be. He sat next to his mother and Seraphina, she looked beautiful in her dress but he was still angry at the woman. He still had to keep his image intact so he simply ignored her focusing on speaking with her family instead.
Gianna knew by her parents request that the Rossi family would be going to the ball. It was a tradition for any of them to come home just to attend the ball while the kids played at the festival. Although Nadia had decided to not show up because she agreed she would go take Kenzo home along with her own kids. The family sat at one of the many tables, and she was sitting by her niece Pavla who was looking around and she turned to her. "You are not scoping out another bachelor, because you and I both know you don't get a guy to make you happy not everyone can be your parents." she said to her niece taking a look at her brother.
She had mixed feelings about the ball, but she had friends she was here supporting. The woman let out a sigh as she looked around, and all she could think about was going home as she knew people who she had a past with would be here and that was all that she needed for the night and she looked at her mother who was sitting across from her talking to her father. Before looking to Lorenzo, and she said with a smile to her older brother who was sitting with his wife.
This was going to be eventful, but she was here to support friends.
Pavla was glad to know both her parents were going to be in England and attending the ball which is all she had wanted for the night was to enjoy a night with her family. She had been drinking some wine sitting by her aunt who had leaned over and spoke to her leaving her to turn. "You know how I feel, because everyone who I was close too are getting married or something to keep things pure, and it's not fair." she sighed. Then again she hadn't spoke to any of them since her school days so maybe she was exaggerating.
But it just didn't feel right as she sat and watched.
Only for her to spot someone familiar which left her to smile, and she looked at her father, and she gave him a smile as she looked at both of parents, "I might not be staying long." as she scoped out a friend.

Brooke had talked to Cameo about the charity ball that was going on in Hogsmeade. They had both decided that it would be a great thing to go to. So they had bought tickets and figured out all the small details. Today was the day of the ball, and the other charity events going on. Brooke had spent much of the day in Hogsmeade wandering around and putting some bids on the silent auction doing anything that she could to help the orphanage. After spending most of her time with Cameo and wandering the streets she had left to go home and get changed into a light orange dress a for the ball. She had not wanted to wear her dress all day.
Once she was ready Brooke left to head back to the ball. She got there just a few minutes before Hestia’s speech and found a table for her and Cameo to sit at. Once Hestia gave her speech Brooke clapped and turned to Cameo. ”Have you enjoyed the day so far?” She asked him wondering how well his day had gone, even though they had been together for most of it.

James had heard about this charity thing from his sister who was still at Hogwarts. He has spent part of the morning with her wandering around Hogsmeade buying her everything that her heart wanted for the day. He never really got to spend that much time with her, now that he was not in school and she still was. It wasn’t like that really changed form their years before. They only had one or two years where they both at Hogwarts together which was the longest that they lived together anyways. As James was pretty much in school by the time Riley was born. So spending time with her was great.
When Riley got tired and had to return to school. James took that opportunity to get ready for the ball that he had bought a ticket to. He picked out a simple black suit and bow tie combination to wear for the occasion. He then returned to the place where the ball was going to be and found a table. As soon as Hestia was done giving her speech James clapped and stood up. He was still interested in some of the Silent Auction pieces and wanted to take a look at them once more. So he made his way that way keeping an eye out for a familiar face.
There were times in Lazarus's life where he wished he could change his mind and go back. This was one of them. While the charity event had drawn in all sorts of people he hadn't exactly wanted to go. It had just seemed appropriate to do so if he was going to be living here. It was, he supposed, a good test of his willpower to be among so many living people and not drain them. As much as he wanted to from time to time that wasn't who he was anymore. Still some old habits were hard to break and he might have overtaxed himself when he'd spent the coin to be here. Besides, he didn't even eat the food the living did, though he could.
This was all going through his mind as he stepped into the tent, late, wearing a slightly dated garb. If he had not wanted to draw attention to himself he should have peeked in first. As it was he stood out among the other patrons here in a very Victorian styled black attire. No backing out now, he supposed, since he had already strode in purposefully. Really he had hoped the eating part would have already been over with but he'd mistimed his entrance. Practically scowling he pretended being late had been intended as he took an open seat so the staring would stop. Once seated he looked over what was being offered and wondered if he couldn't just pretend to eat anything. It was certainly occurring to him now that he should have eaten before now, before thrusting himself into a crowd of, well. People he had not to long ago referred to as food.

Amelie clapped politely as the sponsors were thanked and the speech brought to a close. She did so enjoy charity events. They were opportunities to help the little ones, which she was always excited for, and allowed her to mingle with a large crowd. Who knew, she might even come across a man to occupy her evening, which would certainly be the proverbial icing on the cake.
Though her days of heartbreaking were far behind her, she still enjoyed the occasional date or one-night stand. Preferably with a partner who was interested in a similar short-term interaction. If the man in questioned seemed to be getting to the point of wanting something more, she would gracefully detach herself. Thus far, no one had pursued her past that point, which was fine by her.
Dressed as elegantly as ever, the French woman began to move about the tent as the music started. Her gown plunged sharply and shone like it had been sewn from diamonds from shoulder to knee before turning to a sheer drape that fell to the floor. She slipped through the crowd as gracefully as a fey sprite, her hair falling over her shoulder from it's elegant pinning.
Passing a large knot of people, she paused as she came upon a familiar individual she had not seen since leaving Hogwarts.
"Ah, and how do you find the party, Professor Simmons?" she asked in her heavy accent.
Attending the charity ball was, for Hannah, more about appearances than anything else. Sure, she had a pair of children of her own and she didn't utterly despise them, but she thought that most pureblood children should be living in, well, a pureblood home so they developed a proper attitude about them. And she didn't really care all that much about halfblood or, dare she think about it, muggleborn children. And then there was the whole idea of a pureblood finding their way into a house of muggleborns.
No, she wasn't very fond of the orphanage, but she was fond of people thinking that she had changed since her days of hexing Muggleborns in the halls of Hogwarts. It was important to her now more than ever that people thought she was a good woman by tolerance standards, which annoyed her to no end. She should be allowed to speak her mind, that Muggleborns shouldn't be muddying up the wizarding world.
Still, she sat, and she clapped when the speech was over as she sipped on a drink and considered adopting a pureblood child. Molding a mind would be a great task, certainly, but then she considered her children's reactions. Hossam had been fine when Sanura was born, granted, he was a toddler, but Sanura had always been the youngest. No, it didn't matter. It would probably be much too complicated anyways. She chuckled at the thought.
