Family:
Father - Richard Burke (muggle) || 74 || retired accountant
Hestia has a good relationship with her father. Growing up she was daddy's little girl, however, after the war and a falling out with her mother, Hestia grew distant from her father. She sends him letters as often as she can, but only visits him on holidays, father's day and his birthday.
Mother - Louise Burke [nee Hie] (muggle) || 72 || retired teacher
As a girl Hestia was close to her mother, often writing of her adventures at Hogwarts. After the war her mother wanted her to give up magic. Hestia refused. Louise felt as though her daughter betrayed her and their family and has refused to speak to her since.
Brother - Marcus Burke (muggle) || 42 || accountant
Marcus refused to abandon his sister and encouraged her to travel in the hope that it would help her move past her time in "wizard jail"

STATUS
Where were you during...
Second Wizarding War (1995-1998): Hestia was injured during the attack on Hogwarts in her 6th year. Her mother wanted her to leave school. After a fight with her mother, the summer after her 6th year, Hestia was arrested and sent to Azkaban for the crime of stealing magic. Her mother thought that she had run off.
Battle of Hogwarts (1998): Hestia did not participate in the battle since she was in Azkaban. Her confidence levels, at the time of her release from prison, were at an all time low. In order to get her life back on track her parents and brothers encouraged her to take a trip to get her mind off of the bad and get her thinking about all of the good she could do. She spent the next year traveling around Europe before coming home. Her time away gave her a sense of independence and time to think about what she wanted to do with her life.
Diagon Alley Fiasco (May 2001): Hestia was not in the United Kingdom during this time.
Kidnapping of Hermione (June 2003): She wasn't directly involved in this event, but Hestia took this as a sign that the wizarding world needed to change. It made her distrust the government even more and pushed her to stay out of the country.
British-Italian War (2002-2005): In 2000, Hestia enrolled in the education program at Edith Cowen University in Australia. She needed to be as far away from the British wizarding world as possible. She graduated with a Bachelors of Education in 2004. With no interest in returning to England, Hestia stayed in University and completed a Masters course with a focus on early childhood studies. News from home, especially news relating to her classmates and the insane decisions the government made were dark spots in her life. She learned muggle self-defense and took a special defensive magic class ready for her eventual return home.
Rise of Mortenero (2005-2013): Hestia didn't return to the United Kingdom until the end of 2010. From 2007-2010 Hestia worked in various parts of Asia at orphanages teaching English. She returned to England and began working at the Hogsmeade orphanage in the summer of 2010. She wanted to help the forgotten children and felt that showing love and support for them would give them a better chance at a happy future. Hestia joined the Order of the Phoenix the same year.
Battle of Hogsmeade (June 2012): During the battle between Mortenero, the Order and the Red Capes, Hestia fought to protect the children of the orphanage. Using an illegal portkey she sent the children away while she fought for the Order.
Cure for the Wizarding Plague (June 2013): In 2013 she was still working at the orphanage when the cure was discovered. She helped administer the cure to the children there. She was grateful that the children of the orphanage would be safe and vowed to protect them at all costs.
Joining Liberamach (Summer 2015): Hestia joined Liberamach around the time they changed their name. She lost faith in the ministry and felt that working with people that wanted to see real change was the only way for things to actually change. She was tired of seeing children get hurt because of the greed of the adults around them.
Ministry raid on Liberamach headquarters (May 2017): Hestia went to headquarters after receiving a patronus message saying they were under attack. She fought defensively and tried to help other members escape. The death of one of their own and the lies that came out in the prophet pushed her into buying the orphanage to take it away from ministry control.

ROLEPLAY EXAMPLE
Her umbrella in one hand and her wand in the other, Hestia made her way through Diagon Alley. Her robes had a water-repelling charm on them, but there was something about holding an umbrella that made her feel safe. It felt like home, even if she hadn’t been there in years. The symbolism was not lost on her. Her life was a mix of both worlds, and neither half fully accepted the other. It was a feeling many muggleborns had, a feeling she wanted no future children to feel. It was why she taught inclusion to the children of the orphanage. They were her responsibility, and they would feel love even if they never found a family. No matter what, she wanted to give them a safe place they could go and know they wouldn’t be judged. Outside the orphanage walls was something else entirely. She couldn’t control other people. She could only teach the future generation how to love and accept others. How they handled the world was up to them.
She just hoped they handled it better than she did. Throwing herself into her work and working for change left her with little time to herself. She couldn’t go an hour without someone contacting her, whether it was for the orphanage, the politics of Dunfermline or work for Liberamach, she never had a moment’s peace. There were so many things to do and not enough hours in a day, but it didn’t matter as long as the children were happy and safe.
The orphanage was why she was in Diagon Alley. In September, three of her charges were headed to Hogwarts. Two of them chose owls as their familiars. Finding the perfect companions for students heading off to Hogwarts always lifted her spirits. Giving them something to remember and something so normal kept her going whenever she was ready to give up.
She approached Eeylops Owl Emporium with a skip in her step. Even the rain couldn’t ruin her mood, when she knew how happy the kids would be. She closed her umbrella and sat it against the building. She didn’t want to get the floor wet or seem rude.
Just as she pushed the door open a sign appeared in the window. She stopped half in the shop and half out, her body blocking the door. Hestia scrunched up her nose as the words pureblood only in bold letters jumped out at her. That sign had certainly not been there before. Her good mood was gone, and she felt as though she’d been splashed by cold water. It made her grateful she’d left her umbrella outside.
Leaving was the easiest solution to the mess she found herself in. If only she hadn’t already opened the door. The shop owner might be a rude bigot, but she had manners and she was half in the shop. When push came to shove she could simply tell him she was a dirty muggle and leave. He clearly didn’t need her money. She’d dealt with Lucius Malfoy before, she could handle an old shopkeeper.
Hestia fully entered the shop and closed the door behind her. She turned to see that said shopkeeper was looking straight at her. The first thought that came to her was that he was most definitely not old. The next was that for a brief ridiculous moment she wondered if he could tell she was a muggleborn. She knew it was stupid, but finding him looking at her unnerved her. Confrontation was not one of her strengths.
“Good morning.” What was she supposed to say to someone so open about his bigotry? If there was ever a time where she could have used a bit of Millicent’s bluntness it was now.
