Welcome to Gobstones! Make sure to read all of the following before participating. There are multiple versions of Gobstones. This is the version we're doing, which is close to Curling.
GOAL
The goal is to get your stone on the mark, or closest to it. You can try to hit others' stones out of the way so your's is the closest by the time the rounds are over.
STATS
Your character can have Strength and Accuracy. When you first sign up, you are only allocated 5 points and must say where you'd like them to go (ex. 3 Strength, 2 Accuracy). Every game you play, you get +1 points (If you win, you get +2 instead). Each can only go up to 10.
If you are also in the Games Club (as of before the tournament sign-ups), then you will also get +1 stat.
ROUNDS
There are three (3) rounds, to which you will try to shoot one stone onto the playing field.
The 'field' is just the ground. However, we are using a 5x5 grid (but the characters would not know about such a thing, it's just so we can measure where all of the stones are in relation to each other and the mark). It goes from 1-5 (1 = front aka closest to the character; 5 = back aka furthest from the character;) and A-E (A = left; E = right). Each 25 squares also are divided into 9, but won't have numbers. It would just be simply 'back left corner of A3', for example.
At the start of the round, you must say where your character is starting on the edge of the field: far left, left, centre, right or far right. Then, you shoot the stone and say where you want it to go (ex. straight, left, right).
If you have accuracy of 5 or more, you can also specify how far you want it to go.
Please note that the mark is in C4 (centre; second to last in distance).
A random number generator will be used for both strength and accuracy. There is a range. The higher your strength, the further it is able to go. The higher your accuracy, the smaller the range so it goes closer to where you wanted it to go. This works for distance once you have high enough accuracy to specify that.
HITTING ANOTHER STONE
If you hit another stone, the reaction will depend on the angle and strength (aka if it was going to land there or if it would have gone further without obstruction).
Low strength and straight: stone will replace it. Other stone will move forward a small-medium amount.
Low strength and angle: stone will replace it. Other stone will go in other direction a medium amount.
Medium strength and straight: stone will replace it. Other stone will move forward a medium amount.
Medium strength and angle: stone will veer off small amount to increased angle. Other stone will go in other direction a medium amount.
High strength and straight: stone will replace it and then move forward a small amount. Other stone will move forward a high amount.
High strength and angle: stone will veer off medium amount to increased angle. Other stone will go in other direction a high amount.
Roughly,
Small = 10% of strength*; Medium = 20% of strength; High = 30% of strength.
*If strength is 5, then it would move 0.5 squares (low strength).
Low strength is 1-3.
Medium strength is 4-6.
High strength is 7-10.
ACTIVITY
You have 3 days from your opponent's last move to respond before you miss that turn and it's their turn again. A Mod will post saying that the turn was missed and then the 3 days will begin for the first person from the point of that post. However, after your opponent does their turn, we will not post to say you have 3 days. Use your opponent's time date to know how long you have.
WINNING
Each pairing has 3 games. You must win 2/3 games to win and move on to the next round of the tournament.
