THEME
Happy Groundhog Day, everyone! What, you mean that was yesterday? But the clock still reads 2 Feb for me...Dun, dun dun. If you haven't seen it, there's a movie named after the (what I'm guessing is only) American holiday where a guy is forced to relive the same day over and over again. For this challenge, your character is stuck in an infinite loop and must find out what they have to change about that day to move forward in time.
WORD COUNT:
300+
This contest will end on 24 February.

Imagine this: A large mole like creature, except it being a tad cuter, with a large mustache is coming at you at full speed. What do you do? Well, you would most likely do what any sane person would do: you run. Run as far as your legs can take you! The light suggestion echoed through nothingness as that very thing was being done. It didn't seem to be working.
If it weren't for the large crash that snapped the mole-thing out of existence, Leia was pretty sure she would have been food. Mole food. The thought creeped her out. The crash that had knocked the thing out of time and space was caused by one of the other third year Slytherins who occupied the room. Glaring at the girl, Leia got ready and went on during her day.
At first, it was pretty normal day. Breakfast, the dreaded classes, people looking at her odd. It was all routine and barely struck Leia as odd. Even during dinner that night when a few fellow Slytherins were teasing a younger Gryffindor, everything was normal. After dinner, Leia had gone down to the quidditch pitch to practice. It was all fine until she realized she wasn't alone.
The third year Slytherin had been in the air when she noticed a shadow below. It wasn't a ball or anything, it was a person. It was odd for someone to be there while she was. Curiosity getting the best of her, she had flown down to see what they were doing there. Upon closer inspection, Leia noticed that the other person was the Gryffindor from before. She had been watching Leia with hungry eyes, obviously curious about flying. Leia doubted the younger girl recognized her from dinner before, but she was about to.
"What do you want?" Leia questioned the girl in a harsh tone, hoping to scare her off. She didn't bother getting off her broom, talking to the girl from the sky. The Gryffindor looked up to Leia with those eager eyes.
"Do you think you could teach me how to fly?" She seemed to be a first year, especially going by the pitch of her voice. Worst yet, she seemed to be a muggleborn. Even more half-bloods knew about the magical world. This little fact only increased Leia's distaste for the girl.
"Now why would I bloody do that?" Leia scoffed, rolling her eyes at the absurd request. Leia had no purpose what-so-ever in teaching the mudblood how to fly. It was a waste of her time.
In response, the girl simply shrugged. "I'd really appreciate it," she tried to urge Leia, attempting to give her "puppy-dog eyes." It wasn't working.
"Get lost."
That was that. Leia didn't bother herself with the younger girl for the rest of her practice, despite the eyes that seemed to watch her every move. After practice, she had gone back to her dorm as usual, heading to bed almost immediately. Everything was fine. That is, until she fell asleep.
The mole was back, and this time it was bigger. Once again, it chased Leia until it was crashed out of existence. Like the day before, Leia shot up from her sleep, annoyed to see that it had been the same girl as the day before. "Learn to be quiet, jeez. Two days in a row is enough," Leia snapped at the girl, who looked a tad lost. After that fun, Leia went on as usual. It didn't take long for it to begin to get odd, though. The same things tended to happen as they did the day before. The same people looked at her, the same conversations happened… even the same Gryffindor was teased during dinner. It was odd, and Leia wasn't sure if it was just deja-vu or if something was happening.
Like the day before, Leia went to the pitch after dinner. After a few minutes the same girl appeared as the day before. Leia went down to greet her once more, though this time with a bit of suspicion. "What do you want?'
Again, the girl asked for flying lessons. Annoyed already, Leia denied her again. Didn't the girl realize no meant no? Or, an annoyed no meant no? Even with everything that had happened during the day, Leia still didn't begin to become overly suspicious until the next day.
Like the two previous days, she was awoken by a large crash. The same girl, the same dream. As she went through her day, it was the same people and the same classes. Leia was beginning to get a bit freaked out. What was this? Was she trapped in a never-ending circle? Was she always going to trapped at school? Why couldn't this have happened on the weekend?!
She decided the final way she could tell if this truly was a curse was to go to the pitch once more. If the girl was there, something was up. If she wasn't, maybe it was all a dream…
Sure enough, though, after flying around a bit, the noticed the girl. Instead of approaching her this time around, she just ignored her. Maybe that's what she had to do. Just don't talk or interact with her. Ignore her. Yeah, that had to be it. Maybe everyone who spoke with the young girl had the same problem she did. It made sense in Leia's head. It wasn't, however, the reason. She quickly realized that the next day.
The same crash, the same people, the same arguments, the same glances. It was all the same. Why was it all the same?! As time went on, Leia tried changing bits of her day, changing certain things she did. Maybe it was something she did? That made sense. Maybe something she did triggered a reaction and whatever that was, was intent on making her life a miserable hell.
It seemed like forever until she finally thought back to the girl. Leia had relived the day for what felt like a month. As she went to the quidditch pitch in an effort to blow off some steam, she noticed the girl. At first, she ignored her. She wasn't in the mood to get pissy with some girl.
It was a few moments before a thought dawned on her.
Everytime she saw the girl, she either ignored her or was mean to her. Leia had tried changing everything else in her day but nothing worked. Maybe this was it? Maybe all she had to do was be nice. The thought irked her. However, if it was the only way to get out of the repetition, Leia thought it worth a shot.
She approached the girl, not shocked when she received the same question as before. "Can you teach me how to fly?" Without argument, Leia agreed. She grabbed an extra broom from the closet and began the lesson. She taught it how she was taught to fly: Tell if to come up; when it does, fly around low to the ground for a bit. All of that sort of stuff, Leia taught the girl. Though Leia would never admit it, it felt sort of nice to be able to help someone. It was a rush to see the look of understanding play in their eyes as something finally clicked. It was rewarding.
After they were finished, the girl thanked Leia hundreds of times. Each time, Leia responded with a shrug. She helped the girl. Maybe this was it. That was the thought that played in Leia's head as she fell asleep, drifting into a dream about flying through the clouds with a streak of red at her side.
