Just like in the real army, the members of the National Defense Squad get assignments and get told what to do. The characters don't really get to choose, but it could be that what they want to do is what they would be best at. The Ministry will assign them to where they would be the most useful. So if they are a Healer, they wouldn't designate them as a front lines soldier. They would be a Healer.
Anyone who doesn't sign up by February IC time (~July 8th) will be a front lines soldier.
NOTE: Front line soldiers are the most common in the army, so we will only allow a certain amount of other positions. It would be quite common for your character to be assigned to fight in Italy even if they didn't want to do that. That's what happens when there's forced enlistment, so don't expect your character to completely happy with their assignment.
FRONT LINE SOLDIERS (no limit)
These are the soldiers who are duelling in battles in Italy and also in Britain, but most likely in Italy as Britain is being quite aggressive with the war efforts at the moment.
