The moroi numbers are down. What was once a proud race has been reduced to a few thousand people. The dhampirs, though...they hardly exist. Most of them--most of the guardians, anyway--are either at Court or at St. Vladimir's Academy. The other schools for moroi and dhampir children have shut down. There is no need for more than a single school, so few children have been born in the last 20 years. Living vampires no longer exist in the old country. The entirety of Russia is devoid of moroi life and the dhampirs still there are very few and far between, making their lives thoroughly integrated with humans.
A demon has descended upon vampire society by the name of Alexander Ivashkov. He is a strigoi, and he has done what none have been able before. He has rallied his kind in an all out war against the moroi...and he is winning. For the past two generations he has systematically wiped out the living vampire race. His veritable army has exterminated the entire population of moroi in Russia, including the last of his own blood line. There are no more living Ivashkovs. The last was killed less than a decade ago.
The strigoi forces almost always outnumber the moroi and dhampirs they fight causing their success rate to be nearly 100%. There is some speculation that the fact that moroi fight the strigoi alongside their guardians is part of the reason for their rapid decline in population. Enough so that some of the moroi have gone into hiding. The safest hiding place, and the largest population of moroi and dhampirs in the world is the Court and, by extension, St. Vladimir's Academy.
Xander Ivashkov's plans are clear. He is out to eradicate the moroi. That simply leaves the question of what they are going to do about it...• friendly members
