Another night, another bout of insomnia. Rose didn’t always know what kept her up some nights. Sometimes she simply could not get her brain to stop, no matter what she tried. That night was one of those nights. Luckily, it also turned out to be a particularly clear night, and so she had a gorgeous view of the night sky. Most nights like this she would sneak off to the Astronomy tower for the best view of the stars, but she was much too tired to deal with the potential risk of being caught, and so settled for the comfort of the Gryffindor common room, finding herself a seat on the window ledge.
Astronomy textbook open on her lap, she set about finding and mapping some of the constellations. She was very limited in how much of the sky she could see, but this wasn’t for homework or anything of the sort. It was simply how she entertained herself at such late hours. Something calming her sleep riddled brain could do as she let her thoughts drift.

Henrietta tossed and turned in bed, unable to fall asleep despite her exhaustion. She had tried counting sheep, but after reaching 138, she realized it simply wasn't working. With a sigh, she decided to leave the comfort of her bed. Peeling back the covers, she slipped out and wiggled her feet into her slippers before quietly padding across the dormitory towards the door. The moonlight shone through the windows, casting a gentle glow on the floor – a sight she quite enjoyed.
Opening the door, she stepped out and closed it softly behind her, making her way downstairs to the common room. As she reached the last step, however, an unexpected sight greeted her.
There, sitting on a window ledge in the supposedly empty common room, was the figure of Rose Weasley. Henrietta was somewhat familiar with the older girl, who was known for her friendly and approachable demeanor. "Hi, Rose," she said softly, hoping to minimize the startling effect of her sudden appearance, especially since Rose seemed so focused.
Taking a few steps closer, out from under the stairway's overhead, Henrietta tilted her head, her eyes finding the Astronomy book on Rose's lap. "The stars – is that why you're up? For the stars?" she asked, a growing interest evident in her voice.

While trying to locate a particular constellation in her textbook, she heard the soft padding of feet coming down from the dormitory stairs. She paid it no mind, not wanting to disturb their plans. Perhaps they were sneaking out for some reason, or they were also having trouble sleeping, or they suddenly remembered some homework they needed to complete. Whatever their reason, Rose was no snitch, so she fully intended on simply ignoring their presence.
That was until she heard her name, looking over to see a familiar face. “Oh! Hey Henrietta,” she greeted with a kind smile. Henrietta was only a year younger than her, and in the same year as several of her other friends. While the two had never really spent time together alone in the past, she was not opposed to the idea, particularly when she seemed to express interest in her current musings. “Yeah, sort of. I couldn’t sleep, and when I can’t sleep I like to look at the stars.” She held up her Astronomy textbook to show Henrietta. “Figured I’d do a bit of class work while at it.” Her stargazing wasn’t particularly related to any current assignment, but she figured any extracurricular learning she could do on the subject would be useful in class.
Noticing the younger girl’s interest, she shifted over in her seat, bringing her knees closer to her chest to open up a spot. “Care to join me?”

Henrietta considered Rose's approach to be quite clever. Taking advantage of sleepless nights and channeling that energy into something productive was a smart way to make the most of the situation. Though staying up late did risk feeling tired later in the day, Henrietta believed it was something that could be powered through. Or so she had heard, not from personal experience, of course.
"Oh, sure," she accepted readily, making her way over to the window ledge where Rose sat. With quick strides, she rounded one of the couches near the fireplace, the fibers of the rug beneath her feet tickling the exposed sides of her slippers, providing an almost soothing yet elusive sensation.
As she reached the ledge, Henrietta seated herself on the cleared area, crossing her legs and giving Rose an appreciative smile as she settled in. "Is third-year Astronomy much different from that of second year?" she asked, curious about the progression of the subject. It seemed likely, she thought, given that Astronomy became an elective from the third year onward, and with O.W.L.s just two years away, the coursework was surely designed to prepare students for the upcoming exam. However, Rose would have a better understanding than her, considering she was currently a third-year student.
