Ella was glad that Blaise took her up on her offer to be partners, smiling brightly. “Alright, perfect! How about I start preparing the cauldron, and you can chop up the daisy roots?” She offered, immediately taking charge of their work station. She barely waited for a response before she started to set up the cauldron, filling it with water and starting a small fire underneath to heat up its contents. While that took its time heating up, and with Blaise taking care of the first ingredient, Ella began measuring out the leech juice for the following step. Potions was not her strongest class, and so she always made sure to be absolutely precise in her brewing to ensure the best possible result.
“So, do you think this year will be as eventful as the last?” She asked jokingly, remembering the multiple near death incidents that had occurred to them in their first year. Although some may say the last event of the year they had brought onto themselves. Trying to stop a potentially evil professor from stealing something, on their own, had possibly not been the best idea at that time.
There was an awkward silence after Romy offered to pair up with any of the younger students. Before she could regret speaking out loud however, she smiled instead as she noticed a second year make her way over. “Hi Henrietta, I’m Romy! I’d love to work with ya. I’ll get the ingredients.” Inclining her head in gratitude for Henrietta setting up their station, she went to fetch the daisy roots, rat spleen, leech juice, caterpillar and shrivelfig. She carried the ingredients on a small tray back to their station. “Which step would you like to do? Say… chopping the daisy roots, or slicing the caterpillar?” she turned to her partner for the class with a bright smile that suggested that she did not mind chopping roots or beheading a dead worm.

Meredith had to admit she was a little impressed that Thalia took the caterpillar upon herself without much hesitation. It seemed to confirm even more in Meredith’s mind that she was a good person to keep around, and someone who could potentially be a very good friend in the future. Nodding in acceptance, she reached over to grab the daisy roots and begin chopping those, as they were one of the first ingredients needed once their water was boiling. “Sure, I can handle the stirring,” she acquiesced, enjoying the control it gave her. She liked Thalia as a person, but had yet to ascertain her academic abilities. She would not let her grade depend on someone less than capable, although to be fair she highly doubted Thalia would be one of those students.
“An hourglass? Isn’t that a little old school?” Meredith asked in response to Thalia’s question, completely omitting to answer the question itself as her attention was drawn back to their potion. The water now boiling, she proceeded to add her carefully cut and measured daisy roots, as well as the leech juice, before beginning the stirring process.
