Dear reader,
I sent my owl out with an instruction to deliver this letter to someone he finds ugly. I'm kidding! I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Levi, I'm a Hogwarts student. I don't normally do these types of letters but I thought I'd give it a try. My owl's name is Friendly but he's anything but friendly. Keep your fingers away from the beak.
I'd love to make a friend from around the world. I look forward to hearing the delights of the world you have on that part of the world either it be near or far.

Dear Levi,
I truly hope you are kidding about Friendly delivering your letter to an ugly person. :-)
Please feel free to call me “A”. Your owl has reached me in Dublin. I’m sorry that your letter did not reach a farther part of the world, but if it’s any consolation to you, I only moved back to Ireland last week after living in Vietnam and Italy. I can share what I saw in those countries, and would love to learn about Hogwarts and Wizarding Britain in return.
I am sending Friendly back after giving him some food and water. Hope to hear from you again.

Hey A,
Pleasure to meet you! Sorry if my little joke ended up with you. I trust you understand it was just a joke and that's all, just a bit of tounge in cheek.
Friendly is not as friendly as the name appears to be. You just moved back? How was your time away? I'm starting the new term soon here at Hogwarts. I'm rather excited as I'll be a prefect this year too. Hogwarts is a fantastic place to learn however limiting it may be compared to some of the other schools in the magical world. We don't get to learn dark arts but only the theory of it which I plan to do once I reach my sixth and seventh year.
My time away has been… a lot of things. Fun, enlightening, but also a bit stifling, mainly because my mother is a staff member at my previous school and she was especially strict. I spent my childhood thinking that I would attend Hogwarts, and I’m happy to say that I finally will beginning this term. We may even get to meet each other at school, Levi.
So, are you saying that you are interested in learning not only the theory of dark arts, but the practicals as well?
I’m not judging, of course. Intellectual curiosity is so very important.
Dark Arts is a mandatory class at the school I previously attended. I only got to study theories too because I spent my fifth year in a different academy where the rules were different. My peers who stayed, however, got to practise and witness all kinds of curses and dark creatures. I must say, I am a little jealous of the practical opportunities they had.

Hi A,
Thanks for writing back to me. Sorry it has taken a while, I kind of got busy with school stuff! I got made a prefect here. I’m sure we’ll get to meet each other eventually.Hogwarts is kind of small anyway. Out of curiosity, What did you get sorted into? Also, how cool but scary is it that your mum is Ike that. What did she teach?
Thank you for not judging, I always believe that every branch of magic has something that can be beneficial. No matter how political or questionable that type of magic is. My parents practise Dark Arts often. What sort of things did you learn in your dark arts class? Did you get to do any practical things at al?

Hi Levi,
I hope you don’t mind me not sharing too much about myself. I know, perhaps I should not have engaged in this owl interaction in the first place if I didn’t want to write about me. But I am enjoying our conversation so far and I think that we can talk more freely if we keep a certain distance from each other. Is this alright with you?
My mother teaches Martial Arts, which is another class not at Hogwarts. In our Dark Arts class, we learned various curses and dark creatures. Advanced students even got to practise the Imperius Curse, which was the only Unforgivable allowed.
You wrote that every branch of magic has something that can be beneficial. What do you think are the benefits to the Dark Arts? Are you just interested academically, or is there a practical aim that you want to achieve from taking that elective? What kind of dark magic do your parents practise? Please answer any of these questions only if you feel comfortable.
I personally think that it is impossible for any witch or wizard to keep the Dark Arts completely out of their lives. Thus, it is better to be on the side that knows how to practise it, not the receiving end. I also think that it is impossible for anybody to not make enemies throughout their lifetime, and that one has to do everything they can to be superior to their foes.

Hi A.
I totally get where you're coming from. I'm happy to keep this going through owl rather than personal if that's what you like. I'm sure we'll bump into each other at some point but I'll respect what you've asked of me and keep it somewhat, to an extent, professional.
Dark Arts has been a new area of interest for me. I've only played around with simple forms of magic but it's more academic than practical. Surely, there has to be some good to the use of dark arts. Either it be in the trade of artifacts, books and potions or the fact that there may be a person so skilled they could share that knowledge.
When I read that some of you were able to use the Imperious curse, I'm not gonna lie, that's pretty cool! I'm assuming it was purely for academic reasons rather than another form of learning? I agree to some extent with you but being superior to the foes may be a different perspective to what I believe it to be. It's about being academically advanced rather than superior.
