lia fletcher
Birthday: March 21st, 2012
Blood Status: Half-Blood
Location of Residence: Falmouth, Cornwall, United Kingdom
School: Hogwarts
House: Hufflepuff
Appearance:
Lia has short dark brown/black hair and light green eyes. Her face is covered in freckles and her frame is relatively toned thanks to the amount of time she spends running around outdoors on the Cornish beaches.
Three Characteristics You Think You Are:
Fun, Helpful, Curious
Three Characteristics Others Think You Are:
Energetic, Loud, Fearless
Three Random Facts:
While Lia loves playing sports and being active, she is also notoriously clumsy and is always tripping over her own feet in her rush of excitement.
Lia was born from a drunken one night stand, and so has never met her father. Her mother (apparently) doesn’t even remember the guy’s name.
Lia is very close to her grandmother, with whom she lived for the first 5 years of her life.
Aspirations:
To help her mom get her uni degree, so they can get out of their small apartment and own their own home.
To make friends at her new school.
To learn how to play Quidditch and join the Hufflepuff team.
Opinion:
Flying Class: She was most excited for this class upon starting at Hogwarts. She couldn’t believe that wizards actually flew brooms! Like in the movies! It all just seemed so… well, magical.
Quidditch: She didn’t know what this sport was before attending Hogwarts, but she was mystified when she saw her first game. She decided that day she would learn how to play so she could join the team the following year.
Blood Purity: It isn’t really a concern for her as she has only just entered the magical community and has yet to learn there is such a thing as “blood purity”. For the moment, she has only seen the beauty of the wizarding world, and has yet to see the darker side.
Potions: Growing up, Lia would often help her mother and grandmother in the kitchen, so this class was probably one of her favourites as it reminded her of home. Although much more finicky than cooking, and with more consequences if the directions weren’t followed exactly, she found herself doing surprisingly well in the subject.
Harry Potter: Who’s that? Is that the prime minister for wizards? Do wizards even have a different government than the rest of the country? (cue long series of never ending questions from Lia)
Family:
Mother - Rebecca (Becky) Fletcher - 30 years old - muggle
Father - Unknown (wizard lineage)
Maternal Grandmother - AnnMarie Fletcher (formerly Mitchell) - 65 years old - muggle
Roleplay Example:
It was like a bomb had gone off. The quiet apartment was suddenly jostled awake by a loud “bang!” as Lia stormed in through the front door and dropped her backpack. She threw off her shoes with such vigor that one ended up halfway across the living room, before running down the hall to the right and into her small bedroom, the door slamming behind her. She collapsed on her bed and covered her face, the tears she’d been holding in the whole walk home finally spilling out in large sobs. Another awful day at that awful school. She hated it. Hated it, hated it, hated it!
She scrunched her face in despair as she remembered the events of the day. How she fell asleep in math class, again. It was just so boring! How she had started dreaming about being an acrobat at the circus. How she’d woken up to the sound of laughter, the entire class staring at her, including the teacher who was quickly walking towards her calling out her name. What was going on? Ms Morris had then led her quickly out of the class, telling the other students to start on their worksheets while she was gone. It was only as the door closed behind them and Amelia caught her reflection in the glass window that she realized what had happened. Somehow, her hair was standing straight up, like she was hanging from the monkey bars, or had been struck by lightning. And the entire class had seen!
Her tears came out more fiercely as she recalled that moment, and the teasing that ensued for the rest of the day, especially as random pieces of hair would still float up every so often, no matter how many times she flattened them down. Why did these things always happen to her? Why did she have to be the weirdo, the freak, the one that nobody liked?
There was a sudden knock on the door followed by a slight whine as the door opened. “Lia, sweetie, there is… uh… someone here to see you.”
“Tell them to leave! I don’t wanna see anyone,” Lia yelled between sobs. Rebecca sat on the bed next to her daughter, gently rubbing her back. Slowly, Lia’s tears subsided as she calmed down, no words needed between the two. With a sniff, the 11 year old sat up and looked at her mother, her nose red, her eyes puffy and watery. “It happened again,” Lia explained. Rebecca nodded, knowing what Lia meant without any more explanation. Since Lia had been about 9, weird things had started happening to her. Things neither of them could explain. And Lia was fed up with it all.
“I know you’re upset, and you don’t want to see anyone right now, but I really think you want to come out and meet this person.”
Lia looked down at her feet with a pout, rubbing her snotty nose with the back of her hand. She debated saying no, saying she never wanted to leave her bedroom ever again, but as she looked back up at her mum’s expression, she found herself nodding in spite of it all. Her mum was always right, as much as Lia hated to admit it. She wouldn’t insist Lia meet this person if it wasn’t important.
The two walked out into the living room holding hands, Lia looking down at her feet, keenly aware that her face was still red and puffy from her crying. “Lia, this is Professor Shepard,” her mom said. Lia sheepishly looked up from the floor to say a quick hi, intending to look right back down, but paused when she saw the man sitting on their couch. He was wearing the strangest clothes she had ever seen, and she couldn’t help but stare. “Uh… hi,” she finally stumbled out, realizing she’d been quietly staring for a beat too long. Professor Shepard smiled, “Nice to meet you Lia. Why don’t you have a seat, we have a lot to discuss.”
