Lucette was excited to be meeting up with her old colleague, Yichen. Not only had they worked together several times in their careers, but he also had instrumental impact on her research and the direction it took, ultimately resulting in her finally finishing her first book. She hadn’t quite worked out a title, per se, but it was finished and ready to be published. She first wanted some good-hearted critique from those she trusted before she published, just so she could be sure she wasn’t about to make a fool of herself or tarnish her career. She felt the inferences she posed and possibilities she explored were significant, but others in the field might not feel the same.
Lucy had arranged to meet Yichen at a restaurant in Diagon Alley which she had never been to, though always wanted to try. She arrived early and ordered herself a drink, her manuscript tucked soundly into her bag at her feet. She sipped happily on her drink when it arrived as she waited for her old friend.

Hearing from Lucette had been exactly what Yichen needed right now. Although he'd always enjoyed research, he discovered that teaching was on the one side a lot better than he expected, and on the other side more than terrible. Being at Hogwarts, so far away from the world he'd fought for as long as he could remember, made him feel as if he was in a mother's warm embrace; and given that he'd never felt such an embrace, it was a feeling so foreign that he both desired and rejected it with all his being. The result was a feeling of overall confusion over what he truly wanted, which, after always having been rather single-minded, was not a feeling he appreciated - at all.
As such, his old friend's and colleague's invitation was a welcome excuse to step out of the castle and back into a part of his life that he enjoyed, that brought him a sense of peace which came unaccompanied by repulsion, unlike the one he had now. He showed up at the indicated location wearing some not-too-tight leather trousers, his usual leather boots, a thin white sweater that kept falling off his shoulder due to it being so loose, and a plain black coat. He'd always put a lot of effort into the way he looked, from the shape of his hair to the lack of any unwanted marks on his skin to his choice of clothing; as he knew his friend would remember.
He saw her sitting at a table already and approached her. "Long time no see! Looks like life has been treating you well." he said with a friendly, familiar smile. He took his coat off so he could sit down, rolling up his sleeves, revealing the line of runes that ran across the length of his arms; tattoos he got some years ago, which he knew some of his Runeologist colleagues could translate partially, but which he never showed in their entirety to anyone apart from his husband - so they could never quite figure out the whole translation.
He took a seat in front of her, resting his elbows on the edge of the table. "How have you been?" he asked, not just out of politeness, but because he did want to know if she was well and healthy. The past year had been a difficult one for everyone, with the mysterious Big Threat, after all.
