Textbook was open to a random page but Valens wasn't even looking at it. Instead his attention was focused only on his best friend. "we're wizards." He stated, as if this wasn't common knowledge. "Who's to say there isn't a spell that can charm a hat and turn a snowman into an animated snowman?"
Waters was very excited that he had finally found friends that were willing to study with him--and even more excited that he'd found someone who'd put up with his yelling when he forgot to control the volume of his voice. It was quickly becoming apparent that Valen's was just as bad at getting distracted while studying as he was though.
He thought about Valen's idea for a long moment before finally nodding. "You know, you're probably right. There's a spell for pretty much anything, so I don't see why we couldn't. I don't know that my mom would be okay with me creating life though. She said I can't get a dog until I can be responsible enough to not lose my hearing aid for at least a week."

"But a dog and hearing aids are two different things!" Waters probably had a point, but Valens wasn't fully seeing it at the moment. "I just think that if a bunch of kids could do it in that historical documentary," IE the children's movie Professor Shepard had forced them to watch last year, "We should be able to too." He wasn't sure what he'd do with his own frosty man, but that wasn't really up to him to figure out. Was it? Wouldn't the thing just live it's own life?
"But I guess if that's out, maybe there's a spell to make magical snowballs for an epic snowball fight?" It wasn't winter yet, but Valens was just stuck thinking about Christmas time stuff. Apparently.

"That's what I'm saying!" He could see the future for Pete's sake. If that didn't qualify him to do something as mundane as taking care of a dog, then nothing was going to prepare him. "Apparently, it's the 'principle of the matter,' whatever that means."
Waters dug his charms book out of his bag and flipped through, pausing on a few ice spells. "There's a surprising amount of these...and none of them look easy. I can barely get through normal skills, so I might have to leave the casting to you. Oh!" He stopped, pointing to one spell in particular. "There is an ice golem spell. It says...it's used mainly for evil and that it eats children. His face looks so sweet though." He flipped his book around, holding it up so Valen's could get a good look. "I'd be sad when it eventually melted."

"I mean, what if I stop trying to learn what the professors are teaching us and I just focus on this stuff?" He flipped through his text book to try to find a cool spell. He was stuck on winter so he was still looking at the ice and snow spells. He did look at Waters' textbook at the ice golem. "I mean, just because it's mainly used for evil doesn't make it evil. Right?" There had to be something like where if it was made with good intent, it would be good. Or the power of friendship.
"I'm sure if we made it, there would be a way to keep it cool or something...."

"You should probably keep paying attention to teachers. You're my friend, and I want you to succeed. Also, I need at least one person I can copy off of," Waters said offhandedly, continuing to flip through his book as well.
"This is starting to sound like that dumb movie my sister's been watching for years now. You know, the 'let it go' movie? I've never been more glad to be able to just not hear something. If they could make it work though, I don't see why we couldn't. At the very least, maybe we could have one of those transformation scenes where our clothes turn into something super cool."
