It's always evolving, just like all our rules, based on what we need at the time for TB. So if you're new, do note that our rules are never set in stone for forever, neither is the plot or the app or even board layout (though we haven't changed that drastically in a while).
Changes:
-- If you have 2-9 characters, you need to be roleplaying at least once per character for the last 3 weeks to make a new one.
-- If you have 10+ characters, you need to be roleplaying at least twice per character for the last 3 weeks to make a new one.
-- If you have 20+ characters, you need to have the above but also must have roleplayed at least once for every character you have in the previous calendar month. Aka if you have 25 characters and it's currently November, then in October, you must have roleplayed at least 25 times. Since we do the Top Posters, this is pretty easy to check. (:
During AC time, we've noticed over the last year or two especially that a lot of people will make a new character when they're forced to roleplay to save their accounts for the AC because they suddenly have the posts. But then they aren't able to keep up with them, or their current ones, and sometimes go inactive for a month or two until the next AC. And then the cycle repeats. This isn't everyone and some who do it don't do it every time, but it happens a lot. So we're no longer allowing that. The time span for activity is last 3 weeks, so it shouldn't be all in the last 3 days with inactivity before that for weeks or even months.
-- So if you have 10+ characters, your posts to make a new character shouldn't be only in the last few days with no posts before that for a long time. If it is, we'll pend for a week so you can show you can be consistent with this number of characters before making a new one. This will be especially strict during AC time since we've seen that trend far too often lately.
Everyone should be able to tell how many they can realistically keep active with, but I know that people's ambitions for new characters and snagging things can be stronger than their ability to only take what they can handle. That's why these rules are necessary for the enjoyment of everyone. But if you're consistently active, you don't have to worry. And note that everyone's personal limit for what they can handle is different and it may even be different compared to yourself 6 months ago. So if you have to make changes because of that and shelf people and bring them back later, that's perfectly fine. (:
