Welcome to TB, an all levels Harry Potter roleplay with no word count. Our purpose is to go through the books with one exception: the addition of original characters and what changes that makes.
We accept all beings and creatures in the Harry Potter verse including ghosts, veela, muggles and even centaur.
We have many active events ongoing for both students and adults and many characters and locations around the world.
Come join us and discover how your character can grow and evolve in the world of Harry Potter.
As a "new charrie" - or rather new user but older (adult) charcter - how does paying for things like wand purchases work? Do I have to wait to sign up for a job first, and then whenever the "paychecks" go out (is there a set time, for example?), or until I have 85 posts/or accumulated a galleon?

You can accumulate Sickles by posting and use those to buy things. However we also do give out payments for jobs at the end of the term. So if you haven't reached the correct number of sickles to buy something you want, you can wait a few weeks and use what you get paid during that.
But it is pretty easy to earn sickles for posting. And it is usually faster that way. Plus it doesn't matter where on the board you post you will earn them.
Thanks so much! Another question: It says in one of the gringotts link that You can get free items if you roleplay getting them (for instance, have a thread roleplaying getting your first wand). After the thread is finished, simply reply to the appropriate buying thread in this board with a link to the thread
But it's not really free stuff, right? (e.g. I can't "get around" buying a wand just by roleplaying it, right?)
Well adults would realistically have a wand, buying them really is just for fun (as is everything else you don't actually need it). It also is really free, if you roleplay it happening then you can link to the thread and it will be added to your inventory without using your sickles.
It's also a pretty easy way to get Sickles quicker. And yes, Sarah was right that you get Sickles every time you post anywhere on the board, but you get more in roleplaying boards (I believe it's 5) and only 2 in the OOC boards (like Games and such).
Also, the payments for the jobs won't come in 'til September real time. And you probably won't get a super ton because freelance photographers, not quite so much as a government job or something. xD So I think Earning Money would be a good way to go about it. =D
(And as a hint, mass threads can count for those 'Thread reaches 10 posts', 25, 50, etc. So you only have an adult now, but if you had a student, and they participated in lessons, those could count to claim Sickles for those. xD But I'm sure we'll have more mass threads for adults soon. <3)
Thanks again for the recommendation. I was wondering about that - whether you actually get sickles for all the "stages" (i.e. 50, 100, 250 posts, etc.)
- if we're on the NDS (I don't have an assignment though?) we can still have a job (e.g. shop-worker, photographer,), right? - can I do two jobs (i.e. since Kira's basically a free-lance photographer, she does that part-time and works in a shop the rest of the time?

There is a thead in the rules and announcement section, that says house points. You get them for mast threads as well, and it breaks down how many points you get for a certain number of words. Eliza usually updates it, and then adds the total to our list in the staff section so we know who has received the most points for the term.

Yep - They're both right. Just adding a little. <3
We don't have a claims thread because they get added automatically by the staff and professors.
You can earn points by:
-- Posting in mass threads (10-50 HP, depending on word count, like Sarah said) -- Posting in lessons (up to professor's discretion - they have to let us know who they're giving points to and how much) -- Participating in contests (10-75 HP, depending on the contest and the place you get, etc.) -- Filling graphics requests (20 HP each)
Actually, you also can buy them from Gringotts, but it's 100 Sickles for 10 House Points (1000 Sickles for 100 House Points is the max you can buy in one term).
