No one could predict the outcome of the battle between Harry Potter and Tom Riddle, but the result was sure to leave a massive stain on the lives of everyone involved. No one doubted there would be plenty of failures. And there was one very important one – Lord Voldemort. After his defeat at the hands of Harry Potter, his followers crumbled and slipped back into the shadows. Everything seemed to be going right - peace had been restored for almost twenty-five years, and the Wizarding Community was beginning to forget the horrors of previous decades. But peace would never last.
The Death Eaters lived on in small spates of rebellion. The bombing of the the Ministry headquarters at the beginning of 2025 caused a great stir within the Community. With all opposition disintegrating, everything was thrown into chaos. It looked as though Voldemort's followers were on course to take over. The fall of Hogwarts to the rebel forces later that year proved a frightening point to the Wizarding World. The opposition was still alive. What was left of the government tried to handle the situation. And they did so – badly, by deliberately targeting pure supremacists and anyone who they deemed a threat. It did not matter whether they were guilty or innocent. They imprisoned many, and sent dozens to death for apparent war crimes.
The Ministry regained power soon after destroying the rest of their opposition, and was reformed. It was stronger, taking a hard-line approach in a bid to keep the peace. They were terrified of the idea of another Dark Lord rising and destroying everything they'd fought for. To stop all opposition to their reign, everyone had to pledge their total allegiance to the Ministry. Many didn't. The brutal imprisonments and executions of Muggles, Order members and Death Eaters soon followed, wiping bloodlines from the map forever. Harry Potter himself was executed in 2027 after attempting to derail the Ministry. It was genocide, the Prophet called it 'The Revival'. The Daily Prophet itself was soon taken over and turned into a government run enterprise. Everything was being monitored. No one could print anything that the Ministry disagreed with. Even the Wizarding Wireless Network was placed under sanctions to only broadcast Ministry praising propaganda. At the beginning of this dictatorship many valiantly fought against it. This only led to midnight raids and sudden disappearances across the country. Everyone who was seen as a potential threat was disposed of. Hogwarts was rebuilt and changed into a Ministry run institution, all children who passed through those doors came out with unadulterated love for their government, and if they didn't, they hid their distaste well.
You don’t know who you are anymore. The Ministry has altered history. As far as you’re concerned, this is how it has always been. Harry Potter? Lord Voldemort? The names are a myth, no one is permitted to speak of them except to express their utmost hatred. At least, that’s the façade you have to keep up. Now you must wear a fixed smile while walking down the street. Any outward sign of discontent toward the government is a noted mistake, and is punishable by prison. Whispers of rebellion will send you to Azkaban to be ‘re-educated.’ Through torture and systematic brainwashing, your mind will be altered. But what about those who can’t be re-educated? They disappear off the face of the earth, never to be seen again. Speaking out strongly against the Ministry doesn’t entail death, it is death. Resistance is not an option. There is no choice, no freedom of speech, no elections. You do as you’re told, you think as you’re told. Nothing more, nothing less. This is your life.
