DAHSHUR WIZARDING SCHOOL
HISTORY
Built around 2600 BC, Dahshur Wizarding School was created under and in the Red Pyramid, 40 km south of Cairo. It started off with three Houses, named after a few of the Egyptian Gods.
HOUSES
Students are sorted into one of the Houses (Ra, Sekhmet or Horus), based on their personality. They're not easily translated to Hogwarts Houses.
Ra - Powerful, secretive and loyal.
Sekhmet - Vengeful, tempermental, disloyal and easily persuaded.
Horus - Peacekeeper, wise and brave.
YEARS
Students of Dahshur are older than other magical schools. They start at the age of 13 and attend school for only five years.
GETTING TO SCHOOL
Along with the acceptance letter into the school, a golden coin with the inscription of 'Dahshur Magical School' is enclosed. It is the ticket to get to Dahshur.
Students go to Cairo and behind a shop on the edge of the Nile, give their token to the shop owner. He then leads them behind the shop and presses the coin onto a particular brick in the wall. The magical coin then opens the wall to a secluded part of the Nile, only accessible through that wall.
He then leads them to a large collection of magical canoes, which look just like regular canoes. Once there are about ten students congregated by the canoes, they are escorted by a professor to journey down the Nile in the canoes (two students to each canoe).
Once the canoes hit a specific spot on the Nile, they go through a portal that makes the canoe dip down into the water. At the same time, a bubble for breathing is created around the canoe and its occupants (similar to a Bubble Head Charm) and a Disillusionment Charm is activated as well.
The canoe then journeys through the portal into a set water tunnel through the Nile, which ends undeneath the Red Pyramid. The canoe emerges into a pool of water and the bubble & Disillusionment Charm dissipate.
LAYOUT OF DAHSHUR
Dahshur is located underneath and in the Red Pyramid. There are many enchantments and curses to ward off any entry other than via the magical canoes. There is no apparating or disapparating in the pyramid, so any visitors must obtain one of the magical coins to visit Dahshur.
Going vertically, most of the classes (and the Dining Room) are located in the various rooms and corridors still in the built pyramid. There are magicked windows in the rooms to mimic what the weather truly is outside.
Near the middle of the school is a large staircase leading far down into a large cave with the pool where the canoes arrive.
On the other side of the cave is a portal [like King's Cross] which leads into a vast ecosystem created by many trees, plants and magical creatures. The oxygen is created by all of the trees and plants and there is a magicked sky above, which looks completely real. The actual size of the ecosystem below the pyramid is smaller, but magic and enchantments are used to make it bigger on the inside [like Grimmauld Place or magical tents]. It would take at least 2 hours to walk from one end to the other and if someone was flying, they could go at least 100 ft high. Once someone gets about 90 ft high, a magical force prevents them from going further (feels like gravity), though there is about 5 ft of give so they don't feel like they hit a wall.
There are 5 dormitories - 2 in the pyramid and 3 in the ecosystem. They are based by last name [A-E, F-J, (pyramid) K-M, N-S, T-Z (ecosystem)].
OTHER PARTICULARS
They wear wizarding robes much like Hogwarts and have wizarding hats.
Brooms aren't allowed. Only magic carpets. There is no Quidditch team and only those enrolled in Flying are allowed magic carpets. There are school ones for those who don't bring their own.
Every student is allowed one pet: a cat or a bird (if an owl, only as a pet - not for letters). Fourth and fifth years (16+) can bring a dog as long as they care for it (walking it every day, no poop anywhere). If they aren't able to keep up with taking care of them or if droppings are found, the pet will have to be sent home to their family.
There are no owls because the only way to Dahshur is underwater. Mail is dropped off at the Deputy Headmaster's office and then the Caretaker takes them weekly to Cairo to a wizarding post office. If something is urgent, students should let the Deputy know so the Caretaker can go early. But if they use that request too often, they'll be denied.
The main language spoken is Arabic. However, Dahshur has many students from Egypt, India, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and other surrounding countries. So there are many languages spoken by the staff and students of Dahshur.
Hijabs are worn by some female students and staff but it isn't necessary. Burqas are extremely rare for the wizarding population in Egypt. Just like in Britain, Muggle religion doesn't play as big of a role in wizarding society.
CLASSES & EXTRACURRICULAR
There is no Quidditch and Flying lessons are on magic carpets, not brooms.
First & second years are testers to see what courses the student wants to pursue. By third year, they must decide the ones they want to continue with in their education.
OWLs are taken at the end of their second year of all the courses they've done so far. Their best scores will be the classes they take for the rest of their education.
NEWTs are taken at the end of their fifth year and will determine their future jobs and careers.
FIRST YEARS - Defense Against the Dark Arts, Potions, Charms, Transfiguration, Muggle Studies, Care of Magical Creatures, History of Magic
SECOND YEARS - Dark Arts, Herbology, Astronomy, Ancient Runes, Flying, Arithmancy, Divination, Alchemy
THIRD - FIFTH YEARS - 7-10 courses from first or second year.
