Certain jobs have certain requirements from NEWTs, as seen in the books when Harry had career guidance with McGonagall. <3 When you choose your jobs for your graduating characters, they will need to have these NEWTs to get that job. So it's important that you choose the right courses in your third year and keep the right courses in your sixth year.

You may also change your job at any point by PMing a staff member, but make sure that they can actually get the job.

WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE THE NEWTS? CAN I NEVER HAVE THAT JOB?

Not necessarily. There is a new program in a small school house in Hogsmeade where if your character doesn't have the required NEWTs, they can take NEWT preparation courses throughout the year and then take the NEWTs in either December or June.

WHAT IF MY CHARACTER IS MUCH TOO OLD TO WANT TO TAKE CLASSES AGAIN?

If your character has been out of school for 5 years (aka is 23 or older if from Hogwarts), they may be able to get the job still, on two conditions. Firstly, they will need to roleplay an interview for the job (you can roleplay with another character who would be in an appropriate position to be the one conducting the interview or you may NPC the interviewer). Secondly, the character must have had appropriate life experience in the desired field since graduating school. So if they want to be a Healer, having been employed since school by a professional Quidditch league wouldn't really fit. But if they worked in an Apothecary as an employee or a Herbologist's Assistant, that would be an appropriate life experience that would aid them in getting the job.

WHAT IF THEY'RE NOT FROM HOGWARTS AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE LESSONS POSTED FOR THAT SUBJECT?

The NEWTs do not correspond to what was learned in class. It's a standarized exam set by the Ministry of Magic. Therefore, you must still complete the NEWTs if you wish to have one of the following jobs.

HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR THESE CLASSES IN HOGSMEADE?

There will be a sign-up thread pinned in the school house board at the start of term.

CAN I TAKE MORE THAN JUST THE COURSES I NEED?

Yes, you can take extra classes if you just want to take them. In the future, there will be master classes with information taught that's not taught to Hogwarts aged students, so there will be very advanced magic classes available at a later date as well.

DO I NEED TO ATTEND THE LESSONS TO GET THE NEWT?

Technically, no. You just have to complete the NEWTs (sign-ups for them will be posted in December and June, in character time). However, for class participation, you can earn Sickles (instead of House Points) and it's a lot of fun to be in class as well. (:
