The music was soothing, and Marjorie merely watched as several witches and wizards took the opportunity to dance with their partners on the dance floor. Unlike her sister, she didn't have a knack for dancing. Her only lessons came in the form of the ones her mother had given them in preparation for the balls their family attended.
She contemplated leaving early when a familiar woman approached her, wearing a dress that, with each step, shimmered like water. A small smile appeared on her lips.
"Amelie, it's lovely to see you." She hadn't been the closest with the woman when they had worked together, but she had always thought of her as rather friendly. "I must say, it's quite the spectacle. How have you been faring?"
By the time the drink touched her lips, the sweet wine had turned into the abominable taste of grape juice. It was the same juice that all the wine in her house had conveniently been replaced with, and she knew exactly who was responsible for it. Scanning the attendees around her, her expression darkened when they fell on a particular Frenchman. He had, miraculously, dressed well for the event, and even had the gall to point to the ring on his finger. And, of course, the troll was with him.
About to give the Frenchman a rather vulgar gesture, an obnoxious voice from beside her gave her a better idea.
"Oh, Obadiah," she called in a singsong voice. When Lucien and the troll were looking, she pressed her lips to her ex's, earning surprised looks from both sets of parents. Obadiah would likely be less than pleased about the gesture, but in a public setting, there was little he could do. Besides, if Lucien thought he could get under her skin by attending with the troll, he was oh, so wrong.
Lucien's face fell as he moved to get away from Gen and saw Seraphina place her lips to another man. He had never met the man but he had known the one sitting beside him. The other was the man that caught the pair at his home after Seraphina had hexed him and helped him. His heart ached and hearing Gen's voice set him on edge. "She will never love you she is happy with someone else..." he voice was loud enough to reach the ears of the very woman he hadn't wanted to notice.
His gaze met the Gen's, "We are married..." it tumbled from his lips before he could think anything more of it. He just couldnt let Gen see the pain Seraphina had caused. He hadn't expected the angry squeal that erupted from the witch. Her gaze turned to Seraphina and he tensed. She moved to the table, "Back off" Luci hesitated but moved in between the two. "Enough" he turned to the table, "sorry she has a screw lose...I dont even know why she bothered to come, we are OVER..." he glared at Gen.
Gen huffed, " one of you is lying! You can't be married! He is mine...you mean nothing." Her eyes narrowed at Seraphina.
He had come to the event by his parents insistence and finding out about a daughter was also yet another reason to attend if he found Gianna he was going to give her a piece of his mind. But his attention was drawn to his best friend who had been acting strange as of late. He could honestly say he had missed spending time with the witch.
He figured he could pull her aside and they could speak. But as he thought about it something strange happened. His jaw tightened at the sight of Seraphina kissing Obadiah. Obi and Seraphina's relationship had been toxic. Obi himself was an infection that Alek could only stand for a few minutes so of course seeing the pair he felt an anger. He had to be there the last time things ended...was this why she was avoiding him? Before anyone could comment on the kiss he heard a woman's voice proclaiming that the man she was with would never be loved by some mysterious woman.
He picked up his wine glass and took a sip as the show got better when the woman squealed and made a beeline for Seraphina. He shifted his wand at the ready in case the woman attempted to touch her. His gaze shifted to the man as he realized it was the one he had caught with Seraphina. Oh this would be fascinating maybe he could find out what she was hiding.
His eyebrow quirked when the woman mentioned marriage, could it be true?" He could tell the discomfort in his brothers stiff shoulders at the intrusion.
Obi had not seen the kiss coming he was talking tailor's with the Blackwood matriarch when Seraphina planted a kiss on him. His disdain for public affection inwardly made him recoil. Public displays were only for him to initiate and Seraphina knew as much. The fact that they were in public meant he couldnt voice his discomfort. Now he had to find a way to explain this situation to his parents and hers. They still never understood why the pair hadn't tied the knot already.
He hadn't tarnished her reputation just yet but it looked like today was the day to let the cat out of the metaphorical bag. As she pulled away he could notice the questioning glances coming from his parents. But before he could even respond he heard salacious words from a witch nearby. The mans gaze was on Seraphina as she spoke. Interesting.... so this man was in love with the witch beside him. This had to be the mysterious man, a twinkle glinted in his eye, he finally knew who he was looking for.
His slight grin vanished as the woman moved towards Seraphina speaking of marriage...surely she wouldnt have married the buffoon. His stiffened at the words, which his parents of course mistook for jealousy. His mother spoke, "but she is with our son..." he grimaced, "mother enough...let the witch speak." He turned to look at the trio waiting to hear more.

Charity ball
Had Cameo ever been as nervous as he was tonight?
That was the question of the evening as his hands fumbled around the buttons of his tuxedo, and played around with the object in his pocket.
Maybe right before the Quidditch Cup match? No, that seemed like an unfair comparison. No, he was being dumb again. He knew what this compared too. Twice in his life he had done something like this. Twice in life he had confessed his feelings, but this was so much bigger and so much different than that. The first time he had been a kid with a crush, and the second time...well, he didn't want to think about that one. That one had nearly ruined his life, and might have succeeded if not for Brooke.
As long as he lived, Cameo would never understand what it was that made Brooke fall in love with him. He knew all the ways he loved her, but he was just a big doofus. That was right, yeah? Yeah.
God, he needed to stop being so negative. Tonight was not the night for such thoughts. Tonight was going to be a good night. He was at a ball. Even that thought was funny to him. He thought his days of going to fancy parties were long over, and yet, here he was, about to make a scene at another one.
Yeah, he should save that for later. Right now was just a good time to enjoy themselves. It was this thought that was playing around his mind as Brooke turned to him. "I enjoy every day I have with you." he said, knowing it was a little cheesy, but not caring. "I have to admit that today seems special though. I mean, did you ever think we would get a chance to dress up and come to one of these things again? It's pretty fun." he said with a grin.

Brooke let out a small chuckle at his line of every day being the best. ”That was bad even for you.” She told him as she leaned over and gave him a kiss. She might be making fun of him but it was only because she loved him, plus she knew that she could get away with it because he loved her just as much.
”Right last time we went to one of these we were just friends. Wasn’t it the Yule Ball? Who did you end up going with that time?” Brooke questioned him knowing that she had been his dance for the champions entrance but that time it was just as friends. It was shortly after that dance that she had to watch him run out of the ball and she chose not to follow. What a good friend she was back then. But she hadn’t followed him because she had seen someone else do it. ”At least this time both of us are here with each other not because of a promise but because we honestly want to be with each other.” She said to him with a smile. She was always smiling around him but that’s what he did to her. He made her so happy that she smiled every time they were together, or that she thought about him.

While Winnie was more than happy to get down in mucking boots and explore the coastal biosphere of Scotland, she also became quite happy when she had the opportunity to dress up nicely and go to fancy events. She did more of this in the years shortly after she graduated from Hogwarts than she had in recent years, so this charity ball was all the more reason to dress up. Go big or go home.
Arriving fashionably late, Winnie strode into the venue in a velvet burgundy dress adorned with crystals. Given the simplistic venue design, one might find her overdressed, but Winnie didn't really have much of a concept of 'overdressed' for formal events. Beaming with confidence, she looked around, trying to spot both champagne and a familiar face, whichever arrived first.
It took all her effort to not roll her eyes at the expression on her parents' faces. They had always liked Obadiah or, at the very least, the idea of him.
Leave it to the troll to announce to the world what Lucien already knew, and Seraphina ignored her when she stormed up to their table. Reaching for Obadiah's wine, she was about to take a sip when the troll's words nearly made her spit out the drink.
The look Obadiah's eyes didn't bring her much comfort. Lucien was a fool and she would, once again, have to save his life. "What a way of announcing your presence," she said, plastering an innocent smile across her lips. "Might I introduce you all to Lucien Dumas, the Muggleborn headmaster of Dahshur. We worked together during the tournament." At the mention of his blood, her parents' lips curled up in disdain and her eyes shifted to Obadiah. That ought to throw him off. "And he could only dream of being married to me."
Standing up from her seat, she gave what appeared to be a reassuring squeeze to Obadiah's shoulder. It was, in actuality, a sharp pinch to remind him there was little he could do in public. "If you need me, I'll be on the dance floor." They weren't together, but if it got the Frenchman off her back, she could pretend for a little while long.
She motioned to Aleksander. "Come along now, dear." This was the first time in months she had spoken to him directly, but the only way she could escape this conversation without suspicion was by using him as an excuse.
Lorenzo hated the idea of being in the same place as Seraphina with his family present and it left the man sighing. He was sitting by his wife who was listening to the staff talk and at the conversation that was going between his daughter and sister.
He had hoped for the best and that he wouldn’t get in trouble. The man was here celebrating a good cause for the night.

Nigel took events like balls seriously due to how if he didn’t show up he would be asked question and what better job as a governor than to go to an event helping kids out. He was a man of the people to the public and his wife was telling him the importance and he gave a smile, “I am well aware but I’ll also be talking to our niece while I’m here.” he said looking around hoping to spot her.
He wanted to keep in touch to make sure Hogwarts was being ran properly as he knew it was very important. The man had broke away and looked around for someone with hopes of seeing his niece.
Nerissa wasn’t sure what she was doing there. The last ball she’s been to had been with her late husband, and she nearly didn’t go at all. However, it was for a good cause and all that, and she was supposed to be going to show that Rutherford supported the ball, though she wasn’t sure why they’d sent her to do it. She knew there were supposedly to be others from Rutherford attending, but had yet to see anyone.
She weaves through the endless sea of people she didn’t recognize before she found herself a glass of champagne and a seat on her own. She would be happy to simply people watch for the time being. She’d heard that she might even run into her brothers at some point that night, but she wasn’t sure exactly how likely that was. She crossed her legs and let one foot swing back and forth to the music as she listened and studied the crowd.
Vivienne wasn't never one for the huge fancy parties, but this was a Charity ball after all. She'd made the exception to come to this ball just because it would do something good for the society, and it was best that she got back out in the world rather than working. As for appearances, she had dug around her closet for one of those evening dresses that she would wear to those rather boring family gatherings that she would go to every now and then. Being a Simmons had always had such a steep price, but Vivienne had escaped it all. At least she could still look the part of one of those fancy Purebloods though. She walked around the enchanted tent to see how everything looked.
The darker brunette noticed the amount of people that were already at the ball, and spotted her sister, but she didn't want to interrupt her conversation. Instead Vivienne wandered the tent a little bit as she took in all those decorations, and wondered how long it took for this whole thing to be set up. It was pretty nice, and the admission fee wasn't as bad as she would've thought it would have been for something this extravagant. She walked to an empty corner and just watched as people began to mingle with each other. This sort of thing had never really been her scene, but it was nice to see others enjoying themselves.

Charity ball
Woah, this was going to be a blast from the past.
It had been years since Cameo had thought about the last time he had been to an event like this, but as Brooke asked him about who he had gone with to the last Yule Ball, he was suddenly transported back to that, frankly, horrible time. He had not had much fun at all during that ball.
"Well, since you asked. I went with you first, but then...I went to go talk to Callie." he said, already feeling like a jerk saying it. It had been so long since he had thought about her as well. It was not something he enjoyed thinking about. "I had been a jerk to her for a while prior to the ball and I went to go apologize to her, and along the way I ran into and hung out with my friend, Kaitlyn. She was from Salem and was helping me out with the Dodecawizard Tournament." he said, suddenly realizing that talking about all these past girls he knew might not be the best thing to do. He had been so different when he was young, but he supposed that was true for most people.
"Honestly, I don't want to talk about any of that though. I just wanna enjoy right now because right now, as you said, I am with the person I love and choose to be around." he said, taking her hand and giving it a squeeze. "So, this is a ball right? Let's dance." he said, lightly pulling her toward the dance floor where a few other couples were slowly moving to the music.

Brooke realized that the moment that she asked the question it was a bad idea. She had been trying to be funny since she knew they had gone together as dance partners but apparently that’s not what happened. ”You know, I do know what happened that night I was there. And there is no reason to feel bad about it. We were just friends then I knew you were in love with Callie at that point in your life. So you don’t have to feel bad about it. I was just the supportive friend that was your wingman kinda thing. And I was okay with that. It wasn’t till a year or two after that, that I realized I had feelings for you.” Brooke told him seriously. She did not need him beating himself up for choices he made in school before they were even thinking about being together.
”But I do not blame you for not wanting to talk about it. I am sorry that I brought it up. I was trying to be funny but it apparently did not work out that well.” She told him sincerely. Brooke squeezed his hand back in return before following him out to the dance floor. ”I agree lets dance.” She said as they walked. This was the first time since their Yule Ball that she had been able to enjoy herself like this. Last year she had to chaperone the Yule ball so she did not get to dance much if at all.
