Everyone do read the thread where it says what happened with the Ministry. But here's the scoop:
A muggleborn extremist got her hands on the wizarding plague that was being kept quarantined down in the Ministry for many years. She got her hands on some of it and the rest is still there in the room. She has threatened the Ministry that if the Purebloods don't leave the Ministry, she'll release it. And since the plague was from the Ministry, of course they believed her. The Ministry complied.
-- No Pureblood can step foot in the Ministry of Magic as of August 2011.
-- If they do, they will spontaneously combust BUT NO CHARACTER KNOWS THIS. They just know they can't go in.
-- The public does not know that the threat is the wizarding plague. They do know that all the purebloods were fired and that some new person (not the Order or Red Capes) is threatening the Ministry. But they don't know what the threat is.
-- Mortenero and pureblood Ministry members who were fired know about the threat.
-- Ron, Hermione and Eliza know about the threat (also because Eliza and Hermione have already been working on preventing the plague before this all happened).
-- The Ministry won't comment on what the threat is.
-- The threat is not published in any newspaper.
-- If your character is in the Order, Mortenero or close with someone who was fired for being pureblood, it's possible they would know what the threat is. But not everyone does so if your character is not in any group and wouldn't have a way of knowing, don't say that they do.
