Hi! I'm seriously considering joining your site but am wondering if people think it would be easier to start with my own character or to start with someone from the wanted pages. I prefer OCs to canon characters but worry playing an OC-canon (my term for someone else's OC who has an established life already) in case I unwittingly mess up their plot or something. I am an active rpger at another, small Harry Potter site and so I have no end for character ideas so I am accustomed to making my own, etc.
Any other suggestions/tips for joining this site are also welcome!

Welcome! (:
I think it's just personal preference to be honest. That's what I personally worry about with wanted ads which is why I don't take them lol. We have an abundance of originals, so you won't be alone in having them. (:
In my experience I love making my own characters, or at least start out with one! If i make a wanted character (Like ELIZA MARIE CUNNINGHAM's family tree which is really awesome and you could always check it out!!) you still have the freedom to develop them your own way. So yeah it is all a matter of what you want to do the most yourself! No one will force you to make a wanted char or a canon it is all optional and every character is welcome <3
Hope this helps a bit and I'm looking forward to you joining us! <3

Thanks! And about how many authors would you say this site has as well as how many characters? I was looking around and wanted to get a feel for how big the site really is since the plot seems to expand over a fair amount of physical locations/spaces
we have a lot of active members and characters, There totally will always be someone around to say hello to you and to be able to plot with you! We have members from lots of timezones as well.
We just had an activity check so the current inactive members can return to again but registered in the character roster we have 17 members and over 80 characters (:

We have 102 characters at the moment and 17 in the roster, but I know a bunch haven't posted in there, like Derek, Zoie, Joe, Scott, Rikki and possibly more. So about 20-25 members.

Great, and how frequently must one post to be considered active? I really enjoy writing but with my current schedule I can only promise probably a weekly or biweekly posting at minimum. As I get more used to my schedule that could go up but I don't want to promise more than I can deliver!

That's perfectly fine. We have an AC once every 2-3 months and anything in the past month for posting counts (so for example, the one we just had ended on Dec 15th and any posts from Nov 15 - Dec 15 counted). And if you don't pass, you just get unsorted. And then you can PM a staff member to get re-sorted, simple as that. Deletions happen if you don't pass the next AC and never came back to get re-sorted. Hope that makes sense.
So yeah, once every 1-2 weeks is totally fine. You can have as little or as many threads as you can handle here. (:
Great, thanks! I have now made an account (yay!) I am thinking about my character for that app so I'll probably submit that in a couple of days. I had some other questions in the meantime (sorry to be asking so much!!):
-Is sorting on an author or character basis? Also, if it's on an author basis, what is it exactly?
-If I'm planning an adult character, how does the job board work?
-I saw this thing called "shipper" on a couple profiles--what is that exactly?

Don't apologize - questions are good. (: And I'm glad you decided to join us. (:
I hope I can answer these for you.
-- A little confused, but applications/getting sorted is per character. So each account is a character, but if any author wants more characters ,then they would just make more accounts. So whatever group your character should be in is what group they'll be. So if you have multiple characters, they probably won't be in the same groups. I hope this is what you meant?
-- Well, there's a thread in Registration with a list of jobs. Pretty much it's up to you to roleplay whatever you want with your job. Only requirements job wise are if you take a Hogwarts professor, you have to post at least one lesson per term. But for the rest, it's up to you to write them as much or little as you want.
-- Shipper = Plotter, so it's just people's threads from the Plotter board. But having a shipper/plotter isn't necessary.

Well actually, in Proboards, all of your accounts are linked if you use the same email. So if you're used to Jcink, it's not the same where you make an OOC author account and then link your character accounts to it. They all just link to your email, just make sure you use the same one. (:
Ohhh, okay, thanks! That makes more sense! How would I toggle between character accounts then if I hypothetically had multiple characters? Sorry, this is a different format from what I'm used to!

There is a button down on the bottom of the screen that has two figures on it. If you have more than one account you can click that and it will let you toggle between your accounts.
Awesome! Thank you!! Also, I'm thinking about what age to make mine- what would people say is the average age of most of the adult characters on the site?
Another thing, how many IC days/years to an OOC day/year?
