With the Dark Lord dead, the Wizarding world returned to a state of near normalcy. Rita Skeeter had a heyday trying to assess the body count of Death Eaters, Order Members, Hogwarts faculty and even students that had all been stricken down by the last battle Hogwarts would see for some time. News of Voldemort's death spread far and wide and a de facto Holiday was made to celebrate the final victory of the Boy-Who-Lived. One would have thought that the Wizarding World would finally learn to live in harmony but nothing is ever as it appears. The unfortunately stereotyped house of the snake lost a number of it's alumnus that fateful day. Pansy Parkinson had an unfortunate run in with dementors after her frantic escape from the Room of Requirement and bolting out of the Hog's Head. She spent the remainder of her soulless days in a closed ward of St. Mungo's. Blaise Zabini who seemed to have some potential in life if Horace's little club can be believed was killed at the hands of Ginny Weasley for turning on the school he should have been loyal to. A rather fitting end for him due to their blatant hostility toward one another the previous year. Gregory Goyle surprised everyone, including himself and especially his leader, Draco Malfoy, by outscoring his entire house on his N.E.W.T level exams. This sudden appearance of brains led him to eventually work in the Department of Magical Transportation. When allowed to think entirely for himself he managed to revolutionize the department and invent cleaner, safer, faster, and more convenient methods of travel. Gryffindor alumni, Lavender Brown, eventually became fashion editor of Witch Weekly. Her keen fashion sense and knack for style sped her quickly up the ladder of success. Now instead of following trends, she is making them with her close friend and assistant, Parvati Patil. Seamus Finnigan eventually got a job in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures as an outspoken representative for the rights of leprechauns. It was Hermione Granger and her stand against the mistreatment of House Elves that gave him the drive he needed to pull it off. After his hero's death and life, Harry Potter ensured that Severus Snape would have his portrait hung in the gallery of former headmasters. In naming his own son after the man who had once been so cruel yet ultimately allowed him to live as he did, Harry was hoping to change the way the Slytherins were viewed and in a way attempt to encourage house unity. His goal was one that could never be achieved in his lifetime but perhaps in the time of his children's children a change would come about. With Kingsley Shacklebolt at the Ministry's helm, the Ministry relinquished it's influence on the school and instead handed the power and guardianship to Minerva McGonagall who in her wisdom and experience would open wide the possibilities of the school and change it for the better. She became the first Headmistress of Hogwarts since the time of the founders and one of the most beloved, second only to Albus Dumbledore.
